I have to say. I've never seen England take a shootout like this. I've never been so comfortable watching England penalties. All six of the players looked so composed, so comfortable. It was shocking to see it from an England squad. Bloody well done, boys. 👏

It's not just the technique, it's the sheer nerve of it. If he missed he'd not only look stupid in front of millions, but would no doubt be subject to months of the kind of abuse that old-school England fans specialise in. I've watched it back a few times and I still wince, even though I know it goes in. Top man.

The English football team, with so many stars it has, should win every tournament. No national team in the world has as many stars as England, but they can't win a cup at all. The super advanced and strong league has star players, but they were not successful at all in the World Cup or in Europe.
