Francisco Filho started Kyokushin kaikan around age of 10 and received black belt six and half years later. He made his professional K-1 fighting debut on July 20, 1997 at the K-1 Dream '97 tournament against Kyokushin and Seidokaikan fighter Andy Hug. This was their second encounter, the first being at the 5th Kyokushin World Tournament in 1991 that resulted in a controversial knockout victory for Filho with a technique that connected after the bell rang. The second fight was also won by Filho quickly earning the Brazilian a large fan base in Japan as well as making him one of the then top contenders for the K-1 World GP Championship title. International reception was mixed, however, with Dave Meltzer and other pundits expressing their belief that Hug's loss was a fight fixed in order to set Filho up as a new star

I'm 4th black kyokushin beginning in 1968 and I still train 3 hours a day at age 68. Thank goodness I'm skinny, hyperactive and never been sick, mainly because I don't drink smoke take drugs or meds and never did. No brag, just fact.

factual or not, it's bragging. Keith Richards has done a metric shitton of drugs, is 78 and still kicking. It's luck. Luck to get certain jobs and / or live in certain areas or certain countries. Also no, or not much competition. All competitors are injured at one point.

I had the honour to participate in shihan's kyokushin trainings in Kraków in July this year. I didn't know anything about him, but his sole movements and presence and intensity even when speaking to us showed me that shihan Filho is something different. Great teacher, greater fighter, osu!

There's once in a time,some 25 years ago,when I was a teenager, I was injuried, and couldn't practice martial arts. I almost, stoped for all. That's when I started to read about Oyama-,sensei, and Filho-san. Read about'em make me ,gain a renewed cheer, and now,I practice martial arts, again. Phisycians told me I couldn't train again, and now I train! Never let somebody tell,you are not capable to do something! Since you are alive,there's always a way to do it!

His real life story is really beautiful on how a humble countryside boy came to the big city in SP and with no money at one point he supposed to stop to trainning and work to help his family but his great sensei sponsored him and mr. Francisco "Chico" became a greater fighter

Tenho 53 anos hoje!! Treinei Oyama kyokushinkaikan na minha adolescência, carrego por toda minha vida! Disciplina, dedicação, meditação, coragem, determinação!! Treinei na unidade da Penha SP Capital!! Professor... Tadatoshi, na época era segundo Dan, e seus alunos graduados, Venilson, Nei etc!! Abraço á todos!! USSSSS

Had the opportunity to train near Filho and if one could see how powerful and heavy was his kicks and punching! It did seem that he was just like a super hero almost.

Я безумно рад, что рос на таких бойцах, смотрел их фееричные бои. Сам занимался, пробовал их фишки. До сих пор помню как увидел впервые бразилиан кик, пробовал на тренировках, а тренер говорил что за шляпу ты творишь), но когда уехал учиться и приехал на каникулы, уже все его пробовали бить и делали это как наработку на самой тренировке ). Славные были времена. Сейчас к сожалению нет таких харизматичных бойцов, ушла эпоха и пришел тупой трешток.

@@jonfee5081The fight started tense and cagey, with little to no action for the majority of round one until Filho, making his debut under kickboxing rules, landed the decisive strike, a perfectly timed counter right hook, which sent Hug crashing to the canvas in a state of unconsciousness at the 2:37 mark.

Podia falar do PRIMEIRO herói Brasileiro que foi do kyokushin e tem que ser lembrado por tudo que passou e recebeu a graduação do próprio mas Oyama no campeonato ( e teve roubado o campeonato por mudanças de regras em cima da hora) ,o primeiro vencer o invencível Makoto que tinha mais 110 kg e consagrado por melhor técnica no torneio, primeiro ocidental a fazer o desafio das 100 lutas e poucos em não sair em uma maca pro hospital , mestre Ademir Costa

I've always been a fan of full-contact martial arts/sports. Ironically I'm against it. And would never pick it as a sport or as my siole source of income. A sport that could forever change your life. The damage you could get from one clean blow to the head. Or a vital organ. If you could choose....but I do respect any guy willing to put his body on the line vs "martial artists" who only "talk the talk" and never competed on any level. Even in "point-fighting". Everything we have must be earned. How do we know unless we're tested against equal or superior competition??
