Thornton has been and always will be my favorite player. When I was younger I felt like was useless because I didn't score much, but I was always on the scoresheet for assists. It wasn't until I watched him play that I fuly understood what I brought to the teams I played on. I wasn't fast, wasn't the best shot, not the best stick handler, but always had my head up, always was able to make passes happen, was always bigger so able to throw the body when needed, always hockey smart. Joe thornton is a legend and I credit him with how I played my game and still do at beer league drop-in.

As a Boston fan, I was upset when we traded Joe. It felt like trading a quarter for two dimes and a nickel. I still feel that way and wouldn’t have traded Joe myself but the lack of success San Jose has had in all these years surprises me.
