Great game by the Kings to win their 3rd straight game, and finish 3-0-1 against the Canucks this season. Talbot and the whole team have been playing really well down the stretch here, and are heating up at the right time with playoffs right around the corner. Kempe is quietly putting together another career season, adding 2 goals and an assist tonight. Goal scoring is a bit low compared to last year, but 71 points (27G, 44A) in 72 games is phenomenal. He leads the team despite playing 5 less games than most of his teammates. The Kings as a team will finish with less points than they did last season, but I believe that despite this, they are still a better team than last season. I think the way they're structured is more built for the playoffs, compared to how they were the last couple of seasons, so I'm excited to see how they do here in a few weeks. Go Kings Go!

After tonight, I say this with deep regret and frustration, but Casey DeSmith has got to be taken out and replaced with Silovs for the rest of the regular season. He has capitulated form his strong start to the season, and he's let in many costly goals. But once again, my biggest gripe with this team is they CAN'T STAY THE F**K OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX!!!! WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR THEM TO REALIZE THAT THAT IS WHAT IS KILLING THEM???

I don't even think it's the goalies fault. So many of those shots shouldn't have even been taken. Their defense and penalty kill is atrocious. If you watch the last goal by the kings, the defense men just gave up thinking he's gonna dump the puck in, but he lets him go on a breakaway.

Silovs is probably better than DeSmith, but desmith is a solid backup. Silovs is better off getting starts in the ahl rather than being demo's backup and only playing every 7 or 8 games.

They are in the playoffs. Demo is healing up and getting some rest. The Presidents trophy is a cancer, we don’t want it so a loss or two is needed. The Canucks will be just fine.

To play devil's advocate I think he thought Kempe was just gonna dump it, it was the end of a long PK shift, credit to Kempe realizing he had the step on the bad angle and taking it all the way to the finish

They are actually very consistent after the All-star break. They are poor on PK, can’t stay out of the box, can’t win puck battle, can’t score on PP, often skate very slowly. The main consistency is that they can’t beat playoff bound teams. Canucks clearly is the weakest playoff team in the west. I expect them to get kicked in the butt in first round.

I predict they will their games against Calgary and Arizone and lose to other teams before the season ends... they'll finish second in the divison, and then play LA or Vegas in the first round... the both of those teams will just feast on this feeble team.

Why does everyone praise how good DeSmith is as a backup goalie? He is part of the reason why the Canucks keep losing. 6 goals on 28 shots? That's a 0.786 save percentage. He is getting beat on clean shots also. No deflection. Worst of all, its like the guy doesn't have a glove on. He doesn't know how to cover the puck or control his rebounds. He is completely out of position all the time. Which causes rebounds to go in. Silovs should be starting, not DeSmith.

A game like this makes me really start to miss Demko. Thatcher can really put a lid on things and keep his boys in it and give them a chance to come back if they fall behind. DeSmith, when playing at the rate of a starter, can't seem to keep it up. This is a classic example of why they say a team in the playoffs is going nowhere without that solid goalie.

@@kenzandana4791 to get that first taste. You seem to be forgetting that being a contender this year was not something the management planned for. Yet for a while it happened. The core of the team is still mostly young or just now starting to peak. They've got at least 3-4 years of being a top team provided they can move off the last of the Benning Contracts (except Garland, he's really grown into that contract of his), and not let the morons who hate us having good players run our best out of town.

Trap. They clog up the neutral zone to force turnovers then counterattack the canucks zone when gaining possession. 3 of the goals were on the rush.

@@akivaabraham7739 I don't know. Sadly I never played hockey so a lot of the strategies are outside of my understanding. Trap is relatively simple and I've seen it in action. Ideally killing the trap requires a fast transition game that gets the puck in the neutral zone before the have time to set up. I think this is how McDavid and the Oilers beat the Kings because they're simply faster. Canucks don't have that kind of speed so I'm not sure how Tocchet can counter their playstyle.

Kings put 5 on Demko on only 20 shots earlier this season so it isn't even just that. It really seems like it's just the Kings' style/makeup matches up well against the Canucks and they have made no adjustment.

Yikes, Canucks enjoy messing with DeSmith's confidence by playing like crap in front of him, not sure why but this is 2nd game where they just hang him out to dry. Having that said, he cant save the Canucks with their defensive lapses, so it's not entirely his fault but he is also not bailing out the team like Demko does

I agree, Desmith is obviously not Demko level but lately the defense is letting him get absolutely hung out to dry. I hate all the hate he’s been getting. Earlier in the season he was “the best backup in the league” but now that he’s playing during this Canucks slump it’s suddenly all his fault according to the fans

I won't fault the 18 guys for this one. DeSmith failed to make any big saves to keep it close. The Kings didn't get THAT many shots, but it only took a few to get THAT many goals past DeSmith who just looked bad this game, making ONLY the routine saves.

Well the Kings are back in the third spot of the Pacific, Vegas moves to the first wildcard and Nashville down to the second wildcard. Quite a few changes due to LA moving up.

Those are one-offs. Consistently, Vancouver has been mediocre since the all-star break, and apart from a handful of games, unable to play with playoff teams.

If you want the possibility to avoid losing, STOP TAKING UNNECESSARY PENALTIES. It’s that simple. And DeSmith just wasn’t into it tonight. I had my trust in him back then since the 5-0 win against the Jets. We can agree that we want Demko to return. The regular season is just practice, but when we get to the playoffs, no more screwing around. And BTW, that shorthanded goal from Blueger and Zadorov’s assist was awesome to watch, amazing they pulled that off. They also killed off a 5v3.

What penalties? They took only 3 all game, to the Kings' 4. The real issue this game was the goalie needed to make some big saves, but he made none. Talbot, on the other hand, did make many big saves and the Canucks had to really earn their goals, no silver platter goals for them.

Every comment that suggests Demko is a solution and Desmith is a problem is just a cop out for bad play from the offense and defense. Is Demko a better goalie? Yea, but he's not winning these games for us even if he could be in. If he could and he did then he's bailed you out. Putting a goalie in a position to need to bail out your team is bad hockey from the get go.

@@MistaZULE Shots are just one facet of a game and rly don't speak to the reality of the game. The quality of the shot, the defensive effort and positioning. The kings had some beautiful shots this game. There's a thousand more metrics to consider. Regardless my comment is about the state of comments on canucks goalies in games primarily after losing Demko not just this game in particular. The biggest issue I see in this game is the canucks inability to deal with kings forecheck and the amount of space allowed for the kings to set up on offense. Some of that latter part being just the skill-set and execution of the kings themselves irrespective of the canucks effort.

Thank you for clarifying and I can't really argue with you. I live in Europe and don't get to see many games and the highlights don't show the "real" game so I'm unable to see how the Canucks performed in this loss. Thank you for the well though out reply.

Other teams hitting stride going into the playoffs and the Canucks are holding on for dear life. They need to get back to their tenacious forecheck and hard work ethic otherwise it will be over real fast.

Desmith has been a big reason the Canucks have done so well. Pettersson looks like his skating and shooting have returned. This loss does not a season make. All will be forgotten when they start their playoff drive. Get a good nights sleep Canucks and get ready for your next game.

DeSmith did well early but this game was awful. He made no big saves, just routine ones. Against playoff teams, a goalie's got to make the big saves and at least be solid. Something's off with DeSmith this past week to 10 days and I think it's that he's not conditioned to start so many games so close together. He's good when playing maybe 1 in every 5 games or so, but when he has to play 4 of 5 games, he starts to fall apart.

DeSmith looks llike his conditioning is just not up to playing this many games this close together.

@@griggbaylee5808 the Canucks only took 3 penalties. That wasn't the problem. DeSmith needed to make some big saves, like Talbot did at the other end. And for the record, I'm not saying the Canucks should run DeSmith out of town, but he's clearly in need of working on his agility to handle this many starts in a short time. Some mix of his physical and mental conditioning is not up to the challenge of playing as a starter.

When they had an in motion offense, they were hard to defend against. Now they've gotten lazy and just stand around, and it's easy for the goalie and defense to lock down the angles. I think Tocckett's been trying to ram it into their thick skulls to get back to what worked but they seem to be stuck in their bad habits at the moment.

@@rubberduckie5518 To be fair, it looks like Lindholm game to us hurt, and maybe the Flames were not completely honest about his condition. Can't really fault the management if they were scammed like that. Bringing in Zedorov, Hroenik, Soucy and a number of others has been brilliant. Not trading away our future for a rental in a panic move to capitalize on the team rising up faster and farther then we thought and sticking to their guns of building for the future is also smart. In the past decade, our management never did that, they'd always make some panic move to trade away all our future talent for some rental who'd be over priced and under producing and sign him up long term to make sure we can't keep our home grown talent due to lack of cap space.

2 goals on 5 shots is NOT on the defense, unless you think good defense is not letting ANY shots on goal. 2 goals on 5 shots is a .600 save % which is ENTIRELY on the GOALIE. The defense limited LA to JUST 5 shots, yet DeSmith ONLy made 3 saves?! That's bad goaltending, NOT bad defense. Bad defense would be letting DeSmith get peppered with quality shots, not DeSmith failing to make any save harder then routine.

@@jiritichy7967 Some of them yes, and the Kings do have some talented players who know how to manufacture those situations, but so too did the Canucks manufacture those situations where the shot would be difficult for Talbot to stop, and the Canucks actually manufactured MORE such chances then the Kings did, yet the Kings got 6 goals and the Canucks ONLY 3. How is it that the Canucks could get equal or more chances then the Kings, yet score half the goals the Kings did in a 9 goal game? What's the differentiating factor? If you guessed goaltending and that Talbot some of those difficult saves and DeSmith failed to, then you are absolutely correct.

3rd LA goal was offside, they should have challenged it. May have changed the make up of the game at that point. DeSmith looked really shaky. Definately need Demko back again and hopefully his layoff hasn't affected his play. Tocchet looks confused and at a loss as to how to motivate these guys to shoot.

To be fair, they were playing all game this time, but it's hard when every thirst shot's in your goal and you're having to play catch up against the world's most boring team, where for every 2 goals they grind it out to get, the Kings just need to take a couple of shots to pick DeSmith apart. Not much 18 skaters can do with a goalie who doesn't make saves.

@@conorcahill5422 They ONLY took 3 penalties in 60 minutes, hardly undisciplined play. The Kings took 4 penalties. The problem was DeSmith wasn't making any big saves when the team needed him to. Routine saves he had on lockdown, but the tough ones? Nothing, just LA goals on those ones.
