Shawn Johnson is fourth US gymnast to win all-around title

15-year old Shawn Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa clinched the women's all-around world title after an outstanding floor routine. Johnson was fifth after two rotations before she stunned the crowd and the judges on the floor. In her first year of senior competition, she also adds a US team gold medal to her individual. Johnson joins Kim Zmeskal (1991), Shannon Miller (1993-94) and Chellsie Memmel (2005) as the only four US women gymnasts to ever win an all-around world title. (WCSN, WCSN.com, USA Gymnastics)

I admire her professionalism. She doesn't act up when she makes a mistake or loses. She embraces competitors with a genuine smile and hug. And when she wins, she is humble, yet proud. Such an example. Thanks to Chow who showed her how to be a true champion.

I'm pretty sure Shawn Johnson will always be the "IT girl" for the gymnastics of our generation. She's just awesome all-round. Great personality and great gymnast. It's a shame that she had to retire. And I also love how Shawn got second all-round at the Olympics in 2008, but she got way more attention than Nastia Liuken. It's 'cause she's that awesome! #girlcrush

@@lvega5606 Shawn Johnson was nearly 15 years ago - clearly a different generation. No one is insulting Biles. You Biles stans have GOT to calm tf down- the hero worship is unhealthy, and the Biles stans are nearing Beyhive levels of crazy. Everyone knows she's amazing. Everyone knows she's the most accomplished and decorated. Other gymnasts work hard and perform well too. Complimenting one DOES NOT MEAN THAT BILES IS NOT GOOD TOO.

The children in these comments act like they know everything about everything. Being a gymnastics fan is to enjoy watching these extraordinary women do what they do best. Its not a contest. @hyejin p no, op didnt. Op expressed an opinion. Making it a competition would mean that op gave several names, then asked "who is best?" *That* would allow for a competition. Op named one person, their choice. One person can't compete against themself.

my heart broke for her last night in beijing in the all around. She is always so consistent, never falls, nastia always has errors but managed to pull it together when it counted. Unfortunately her body will probably not let her be this good in london. Doubtful she will stay around that long. WAY TO GO SHAWN, blocked from the top step by a historic night for nastia, the silver is as good as gold!

You know she’s incredibly talented when after the third tumbling pass she almost steps out of bounds and without even looking down she shifts her feet along the out of bounds line for her dismount. Amazing.

every single time i look back at Shawn’s bar routine, it absolutely KILLS me how she was literally perfection in terms or cleanliness/execution (maybe not in terms of flexible type styled line as Nastia) and all she had to do was add more releases and extra stuff for bonuses and she would’ve surpassed soooooo many

I have never seen this video - great compilation of Shawn's events. I think if the Olympics had been in 2007 & not 2008 she would have walked away with at least 4 (all around, beam, vault & floor) if not 5 gold medals. I adore Shawn - she is a complete human being. I love her, Aly Raisman & now Suni Lee - admire the heck out of Simone of course & so many other greats both American & not American. Amazing people.
