Derrick White has become one of the best defensive guards in the NBA, and has also taken his offensive ability to the next level this season.
But how come he was taken 29th Overall in the 2017 NBA Draft?

2017 draft has been lowkey really consistently good all throughout. The biggest issues were the 1st 2 picks falling short of expectations so far. A lot of really good/great players in the middle of the round though and that's fairly rare to find.

His importance to Boston cannot be understated. White genuinely deserves All-Star consideration. Hes played All-Defense caliber defense on some tough assignments all season, hes averaging 17ppg on a team with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Hingus Pingus, and Jrue Holiday... Hes been insanely clutch all season and level headed through it all. No matter what role Boston gives him, he goes out and does his job and on most nights overachieves which keeps demanding a bigger and bigger role. For a team that added Holiday and KP, White has been one of the best aquisitions of the past few years. Hes incredibly smart with an extremely high basketball IQ. His advanced stats are worth drooling over if youre an NBA GM. Boston keeps finding diamonds and steals and Im so glad weve got him. IMO hes probably Bostons most important player on a lot of nights behind Tatum obviously. Whites been the epitomy of consistency, professionalism and class on and off the court. Boston keeps finding guys that the rest of the league would kill to have on their team. I really hope the coaches give him the respect he deserves and give him some All-Star votes, hes been that important to Bostons league leading record.

this is how i know you don’t watch the games bc if you think Dennis Smith has gotten worse or is about to be out of the league you are crazy. just beat OKC by himself last night btw. 13, 12 rebounds & 7 assists with 2 steals off the bench. (6 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS) he’s one of the best point of attack defenders in the league and has turned himself into a patrick beverley type role player

@Amm17ar
@Amm17ar 6 ай бұрын
I think the truth lies somewhere in between both of you lol. He is somewhat of a "bust" being a lottery pick and youd expect more from him given the start he had. That said, he has been a servicable NBA player. Hes averaging 7 and 4 assists per game this season....not exactly the game deciding key role player or starter in the league. Hes never improved his shot selection or efficiency, his defensive win shares have been well below where they should be for an athletic guard, and his 3pt % has genuinely gotten worse over the course of his career to the point where hes in the 20th percentile...... Hes not a great NBA player, but he is an NBA player. Youre REALLY overstating his defense lol. Hes literally averaging his career worst defensive rating. Against OKC he was good, I think we forget every player thats come through the NBA can play damn good basketball and once in a while even terrible players by the All-Stars standard will have a good game. He had a good game, but he wasnt THE reason Brooklyn won..... Bridges had 22, Cam had a good game and Royce O'neal led the team in +/- with really good stints defensively off the bench. Im not saying youre wrong, but your going off one game where he was good and saying he deserves respect. Ironically, you saying hes turning into Patrick Beverly is what makes me wonder if youve watched basketball for any part of the last 6/7 years cuz Dennis Smith Jr is not a great NBA player lol.... No player gets moved around that much and is on the fringes of the league by accident. With his shooting numbers, poor defense and lack of consistency, its pretty surprising hes still in the league.
