Good product but what you need is some sort of fast switching mechanism.. Otherwise the current is too high to utilise and it will damage the part to be spot welded. Shorting the battery for a long time may even damage it. You can use a 200 amp relay as a switch.

@@lyndonp6296 That's a 6A4 diod... it's common diod that comes in at 6 amps at 400 volts... that's a 2,400 watt diode. It will survive that little 6v battery ... it's there for back flow protection to keep the battery from heating up... it's still a super unsafe build, but the diod definitely didn't fuze... in fact diodes can't fuze into a conductor because of how there constructed... it would glow red hot, let out it's 'magic smoke' and loose it's conductive properties then the glow would go out and it would just be a dead diod. If your lucky it happens fast enough that the thermal expansion causes a miniature explosion, but usually it's not that spectacular when a diode fails though... usually it's just glow, smoke, fizzle, dead all in the course of about a second (a really long time in electronics).

It seem to be good enough for certain jobs, especially if a guy already has all the components laying around like this guy typing this comment. I have a specific task is why I'm watching a few videos, the easier and more inexpensive way I can achieve my objective is what I'm looking for. I have a $10 u.s item that I would like to repair so it don't make sense to spend $30 on the circuit board and whatever else to achieve the same results in my case. I'd be happy to return to comments when finished and give a honest review of my success or failure. If anyone would be interested in honest opinion of how this performs on everyday materials? I'm not a welder or an electrician and have very very limited knowledge how electrical currents flow. The easier it is to comprehend and implement the better for a lot of people who don't have the knowledge of electrical currents and how they work and what components you need to build more sophisticated devices. Im just a regular Joe that turns to smarter people then myself i. e KZfaq for ideas to aide me along. To criticize an idea just because you have a more elaborate sophisticated way to achieve near same results. Well post your KZfaq video and maybe the way you suggested would be better. But is it more practical for everyone or only a one time use? Keep on keeping on fellas all these diy vids are great. And I'm sure they help tons of people..

@@georgestiell7740 . The only reason for a diode in a dc circuit of this type would be to protect from any back emf generated by an inductor such as a relay coil but short circuiting a battery is definitely not recommended. That is a universal instruction that accompanies all batteries. An 18650 spot welder works on low voltage and high current usually by the discharge of a large value capacitor to give a short duration high current pulse.

@@Quickened1 Just like the path of least resistance is not the only path for current, the highest resistance is not the only resistance. Considering the large currents in this ridiculous "spot welder", Sourav has made a correct observation. In every case, the connections should be mechanically sound before soldering. Solder is not intended to be the current carrier as it's typically 5 to 10 times the resistance of copper, depending on the alloy used, with a much lower melting point than iron, which is about 4 times the resistance of copper. The diode that was soldered in place was absurd. Not just because it was soldered in place, but because there is no way that diode is going to handle the current... and since it's missing at the end, it definitely didn't survive. Never mind that is served no purpose. THIS is why people who make videos on KZfaq are often dangerous. You can be king of the blind with partial sight in one eye and blind in the other.

Why the diode is needed? The battery is DC not AC. You are going to burn the diode if the current exceeded its ratings.

He obviously had enough power from the battery he was using. A car battery would just deliver more power. The part number for the diode would be BLWN2HELL.

Hi Does it have to be 6A4 diode or any diodes ?
@joemann7971
@joemann7971 2 жыл бұрын
I don't see the point of the diode. You could probably omit it. It does reduce the voltage a bit but you'd likely get stronger spot welds by removing the diode.
@simjang-9171
@simjang-9171 2 жыл бұрын
Its for safety, because in theory works as current limiter. If I don't remember incorrectly 6A4 stands for 6 Amperes 400v. So actually, I would like to get one around 2 to 4 Amps max since this would reduce the chances of the battery exploding in my face. If u want to do this, make sure u put 2 diodes in series so if the first fails and short circuit, the second will buy u enough time to disconnected the terminals. Edit: No, losing 1v doesn't matters, if anything it will help u to avoid sparks when welding.
@joemann7971
@joemann7971 2 жыл бұрын
@@simjang-9171 Diodes don't do any sort of currently limiting. The current you're mentioning is just the max those diodes can handle continuously before they burn. The main thing those diodes will do is provide a small voltage drop, which would reduce the current but its not current limiting by any means. The main reason for such diodes would be to prevent reverse current but you're dealing with a DC battery, not AC, so, diodes are unnecessary. Besides, you're building a spot welder. You want higher currents. If the current is too low, nothing will happen. So, why would you want to limit or reduce current? If its too powerful, just reduce the time the spot welder is on. Instead of 1 second, you do 0.75 seconds or 0.5 seconds. The less time the spot welder is on, the less likely you'll damage the cells, so you have nothing to lose by having a more powerful spot welder.

No he won't, it will just melt... at worse we're looking at fire with battery acid and molten plastic spilling out across the table ... in a really really rare type of diode failure he may get a small pop from the diode... but that's a 6a4 diode ... it's rated for 6 amps at 400 volts DC so that's 2,400 watts... the dioed would out last that battery... but he configured it wrong for backwards voltage protection so the battery is likely to melt... though he'll probably notice before fire starts... it's going to start warming the plastic by the terminals first and as the plastic gets soft things will begin to shift and he'll see that his terminal is say 8 mm from where it belongs and then realize he's melting the battery. That's the most likely outcome ... but kaboom has my vote... that would be way cooler.

Learn to type! By reading any further you agree to assume all liability and responsibility for your own actions and what you decide to do with this information. That being said, it's a "6 amp, 400 volt, rectifier diode"... If you could not figure that out on your own, than you should not make one of these. I told you anyways because I believe in natural selection. Do with it what you will, but remember I warned you.

Can you explain your comments further please bruh, I'm working on a 1977 toyota pickup and cutting put a the rust , only the body has rust thank God haha 😂 but I need to replace my flooring in The cab , especially in the front part of the cab, where the factory bolts the cab to the frame near the engine firewall it's completely rusted away like there's nothing g holding the body to the frame anymore , i can't afford a welder at the moment and I need this truck for work so I've been looking for ways to weld new flooring in. In also building a full roll cage hidden Inside the body , reinforcing some stuff on the truck since I'm tripling the HP it has currently. All new adjustable coilovers front and new adjustable 4 link coilover in rear to replace the leaf springs , new disc brakes front and rear, HEAVY sound deadening for floor,doors,roof and heavy duty weather stripping replacement. Lowering it a bit to help with handling at high speeds, no power steering ... anyways I'm excited AF for the build trucks factory original everything and everything works except it rained heavy one day and my speaker(yes truck has 1 single speaker ) lol went out. Anyways until I can afford a welder I have to make do with what I got 😂

Two problems with your set up. First and foremost those leads are always hot. That is a bad thing. Second stainless steel is the wrong material for the leads as you showed. Melting them. Copper or tungsten would be a better choice. A momentary switch is essential for safety.
