The English-born Irish actor Brendan Coyle is perhaps best known to TV audiences for playing Nicholas Higgins in the miniseries North & South or the valet Mr. Bates in Downton Abbey. The latter role earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series and a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actor.
Coyle’s latest TV project is the crime drama Spotless, a CANAL+ original series produced by Tandem. The 10x1-hour series, set in London, is peppered with black humor. Coyle recently met with TV Drama Weekly’s Anna Carugati to discuss his character in Spotless and talk about what guides the choices he makes in the roles he takes on.
