At just 22 years old, Avneet Kaur has a body of work that spans over a decade in Indian television and films. The bubbly actress started when she was just seven, and has been working since. Avneet’s latest, Luv Ki Arrange Marriage, a comedy film, is currently streaming on ZEE5 Global.
Connected to India caught up with the actress for an exclusive interview, where she spoke about the movie, her co-stars, and the recent achievement at Cannes.
Avneet, who plays Ishika in the movie, told CtoI’s Himanshu Verma that her character is “confident, brave and outspoken”, who takes care of her mother, played by Supriya Pathak.
The movie kicks off with a traditional arranged marriage setup where a young couple, played by Sunny Singh and Avneet, meet for a potential match. However, their initial encounter is marred by clashes and differences. Unexpectedly, amidst the tension, they begin developing feelings for each other. Just as they plan to reveal their newfound love to their families, a twist unfolds - Sunny’s widowed father, played by Annu Kapoor, finds himself smitten by Avneet’s single mother. Adding more chaos to the mix, Rajpal Yadav is also madly in love with Supriya Pathak.
Asked if the plot played a role in her saying yes to the project, Avneet said, “Absolutely”. She then went on to laud her co-stars, admiring their rich filmography.
“When you work with the senior actors, there’s always so much learning, there’s so much that they can offer you, and that’s what I was so excited about. Every time that I have worked in the past with senior actors, I have always sort of taken something back home, as an actor or as a person for that matter. So, I was very excited when I got the news that such esteemed actors will be involved in this project. I said yes at that moment itself,” Avneet said.
“I was like, ‘who doesn’t want to work with them’. That was my first thought. When I actually did work with them, I understood a lot of things about acting, or about life, or about how an actor should be when you’re working on the set. They always made me feel so involved in every scene, in every conversation, and they give so much importance to each and every person on set, which I really, really felt happy about. I respect them a lot and I would love to work with them again,” she added.
Avneet, who became the youngest Indian actress to walk the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival, this year, termed her experience as “crazy”.
