Just because we were together for a min doesn’t mean I owe you shit afterwards! It’s on me when it comes to how I spend my money and who I spend it on. Even If I was giving you a certain lifestyle when we were together you don’t deserve to retain any of it if we ARENT together. There is literally no point or obligation on my end.

Sad thing about the "get a good prenup" is that prenups aren't a guarantee that you won't have to pay alimony. Way too many examples where people still get forced to pay even though they had a prenup in place. Also depends on what state you live in.

If a partner cheats and the other asks for divorce, he is a shitty person and the first thing to do is leave. But it is still not an excuse for alimony imo. Money is something you earn. Maybe we can agree on a single price after the divorce that the cheater has to pay as a settlement. Thats it. That doesn't give the other partner the right to get money from me for A HOLE DECADE ! Yes she came in and didn't work but thats life, he/she is an adult and unfortunately you have to start your life again.

Prenups can be thrown out if the spouse makes up something convincing enough to say that they signed it under coercion

My parents were married for at least 20 years before separating. My father barely paid child support. He gave us allowance. Then he stopped giving my siblings money. He continued to give ME money. I don't know all of the particulars but I do know that my father lost his job, didn't pay anything and my mom eventually lost the house. Had my father done what he was supposed to do that wouldn't have happened. My mother had a job but without 2 incomes everything became harder for her to manage financially. Some of it was on her though. She should've sold the house and my siblings should've gotten their own place. Including myself. But she didn't want that. She should've at least had all of us paying rent. Spousal support is needed because no one should end up hungry and homeless. But I also think that you should be acquiring a skill while you're getting that so you can support YOURSELF. Spousal support should NEVER last that long.

My big issue with the alimony is that many bread winners that do marry quote on quote brokie is because they believe there were in love and of course they’ll want to do anything to support them but unfortunately the love was one sided. The brokie marry them because they are exactly that, a big pay day and courts 9/10 will force the one who makes the most to continue to pay. I bet my life saving that if alimony was removed, they’ll be a big drop of false love

that is true that there are a lot of shitty people out there. but if this rule is in place, it can also be even worse for the person being wronged. if the person that contributed less in the relationship cheated on you and then you filed a divorce. by that same rule would that mean you would haft to give most of your things to the person that wronged you? what about if you both don't love each other anymore and you get a divorce, but you both contributed a lot in the relationship but one of you contributed a little less. would that mean you would lose most of your stuff because you gave a little less then the other when it came to the relationship? yes there are men out there that take advantage of women, but that doesn't mean that women can't do the same. even in your example. if you were poor and someone got you out of that bad spot, you have the opportunity to better yourself and fix your life wile in the relation ship, wouldn't you take that chance. from what i see, your just giving all of your stuff to the person that did nothing in the relationship, the lazy ones. the ones that could use you for your money, the ones that manipulates you, the ones that emotionally scars you. and i don't see that as fair or justified. your way of thinking about this thing is only 1of only a couple true outcome of other possible WORSE outcomes. marriage is suppose to show how much you care about your companion and that relationship, and when the other person says yes to that 10,000$ ring, that should be the closing deal saying they feel the same way towards you and the relationship. the wedding vows are also there to make it even more permanent. yes life can be a kick to the balls, trust me i know that fact down to my soul. but i shouldn't haft to give my stuff to the person that didn't even try to better themself by fixing there life before meting me.
