SPQR is the new miniatures game from Warlord Games, in this video we are going to flipthrough the 196 page, A4 softback rulebook, which is available to purchase on its own, or as part of the Clash of Heroes boxed starter set. To read a complete playthrough of the rules and our assessment of the game see the August issue of Wargames Illustrated magazine, WI382, and read our SPQR Rules Showcase.

Thank you for this. We're awaiting Clash of Spears ruleset release in April 2020 as its "skirmish" ruleset appears more engaging for this time period.

That resin doesn't clean up with a knife well at all. I just kind of bounces. I am really surprised how hard it is. Luckily I don't mind a bit of flashing as painting table ready standard. But for seriousl modeller? Beware. My box set also came with a scuffed up book and bent Gallic swords where the plastic went white. Also! There are issues and mistakes in the rules. BIG ONES. Still worth £40 if you don't mind all that and love the concept but if you are perfectionistitic about models and rules then no way.

Looks like all generic Warlord games with D6 system (Yawn). Why play when I have SAGA?

Great starter for the price, rules are in my opinion a good start for building into Hail caesar. The campaign part and warband building is neat. But It does come Down to what system you personally like the best.

I am just not a fan of games that distort histories even for beginners. The main reason is that people that play such games will eventually run into the "hard core" games/historians and be laughed at. Sadly such gamers will probably never pick up and study histories.

What games are those? I'm interested in a very complex historical war game but I haven't found one yet?

Can you illuminate us and give a name of a game that is 100% historically correct? We want to play something like that (poor the player that plays with the side that lost in history books).

@@StevanEC We're not trying to recreate a tit for tat historical battle gaining nothing more then the same historical results boring..... We are looking at historical units their training, morale overall performance, weapons armor, ect. Although subjective for early period history enough research can produce an approximation of a units ability. We set up military situations/scenarios that the armies fight for. Players look at the strength and weakness of their units and plan accordingly. If the rules and scenario are balanced then you should be able to walk away and say I had fun even if I lost. Not because you threw 10-15 d6 or out diced your opponent. With all this said SPQR is nothing more then a fantasy game with make believe units. This really applies to most skirmish rules Clash of Spears/ SAGA. There is no data for references on what makes up a war band. Pure fantasy/speculation.

@@luxosaucer1086 I would give a go at Warrior or Mortem et Gloriam. And if your daring there are some very historical detailed ancient board game.

@@charlesrowan1978 As I said before, can you give us the name of a game that complains to all that you said?
