That big peel on the drywall, I've found that spraying those with some BIN primer (sold in a spray can) keeps the brown paper from soaking up water from joint compound. Helps if you don't want a bunch of big bubbles and delamination.

When you live in a colder climate you chuckle a little about the two inches. curious what the math would be if you did the zip sheathing with the inch of insulation then came in and sprayed. You are having the zip sheathiing with the vapor barrier plus the foam insulation with a barrier. Would you do a radiant house wrap then the siding? Not sure it would help with termites- but always thought about pouring a cement sidewalk all the way around the house. One to help run water away frm the foundation- two to keep plants from being right up against the foundation and three- to be able to safely walk all the way around the house.

2 inches of what appears to be closed cell foam. I don't know the cost but i did my house 4 years ago with 6 inches of open cell. 40x60 all exterior walls, ceiling, roof and air ducts in house. My cost was $5900. Best investment ever and house holds cool and heat very well. The reason we did not go with closed cell was a problem someone we know had with closed cell. His new building ended up having to be torn down because the closed cell caused all the lumber to dry rot. A roofer was called to install a solar roof vent and while he was on the roof he experienced a sponge type situation on the roof. They inspected the interior of the building and the lumber was crumbling in his hands sooooooooooo i would say pay close attention to your lumber if you have closed cell foam

In case people were wondering about the cost, I was doing a job and got quoted for spray foam and it came out to being a little over 2x the cost for closed cell vs traditional batt insulation. We went with the batt insulation in the end but there is defiantly a place for spray foam but it is job specific
@RossReedstrom4 ай бұрын
Did that include attic? I've been wondering about moving the insulation in my attic to the deck, and sealing the soffits. This would move my ac equipment into conditioned space, which should help with efficiency. Retrofitting bats into a roof deck is almost impossible, it seems to me.

Spray foam is amazing! I used it for my shop and it’s like being in an Igloo cooler. Extremely energy efficient. Later we removed to attic batt insulation and sprayed the roof line of our house. Instant improvement in A/C efficiency. Then remodeling, always remove exterior batt fiberglass and have it foamed. Normal track build 3 car attached garage - outside temp 19, inside 45 and no garage door insulation, yet. Amazing. Good choice for your build, even if you would have had to pay for it.

You found a great guy with Joey! Right amount of education and a side of humor. Great job! Paul gave me an idea on how I can fix a problem in my garage. I hope I can find someone who will go along with me. Back in 1950, when my house was built, they embedded the base of the studwalls IN the concrete floor. Back then, they used a product to sheath the outer walls that looks like drywall wrapped in tar paper. That close to the soil, there's been a lot of disintegration. I had a contractor fix the holes with OSB, but it's still wicking moisture and now mice have chewed holes. Maybe this hardshell, closed-cell insulation would stymy the critters.

My late husband and I added unfaced R19 to our attic, and 5 years later, I added another R19 perpendicular to what we laid. I also relocated the flex duct work off underside of the roof decking, resealed the lines, straighten the runs with appropriate bends, and buried them under all the insulation. I resealed and wrapped the supply and return lines throughout the attic. The first application of R19 lowered our hvac bill to about 250/month year round. The second, lowered it to about 125/month year round. Compared to the original bills being over 400/month year round, what an improvement. The latest info from the government is a minimum of R40 in attics for most of America. R60 in some places is common. I am not sure R21 is going to be adequate for Houston TX and their longer, hotter, cooling season than East Tennessee. My philosophy is if you have the ability to add more to begin with, do so. But it was interesting to see how it's done.

Not being a smartass, it really is arguably his most cinematic filming that I've seen...at least enough for me to take the time to pause and write this lol. Nice work guys - I'm realizing that part of your vetting process for your contractors is finding a qualified professional that is willing to educate the concept, the engineering, the textbook side, the practical knowledge, and all the safety aspects. I'm sure that it makes it harder in the sense that you're finding someone that does all that AND is comfortable being on camera. But the results show EXACTLY the type of content that you're trying to produce, and it's really getting more and more evident that you guys have a theme and a style, and you're killing it. Used it in the bathroom to keep loud music and showers quiet in the rest of the house, and used it on the party wall of my townhouse. Can't believe how well it worked. Used it in tape form on the studs in the bathroom and in caulk tubes everywhere else. Would love to see you try the product and show the install.
