I wanted to spray my underglazes on my pottery but didn't want to pull out the airless sprayer (sitting my cabinet... never opened). So I found this sprayer system on Amazon (which is meant for paints) and thought I'd give it go! Here is the exact sprayer I'm using if you are curious
(Preval Spray System on Amazon amzn.to/3vuXmp8 )
Hope you enjoy :D

I DID WEAR A MASK...ALWAYS WEAR A MASK, (not mentioned in demo), Im alternating between wearing a mask and removing it to speak. NOT THE SAFEST WAY I ADMIT, but needed to let you know! If you all have any suggestions, ideas or insights I'd be happy to hear!!!! Thanks so much for watching :D

Great video to show some things that can be done with an airbrush. You should really use a resperator if your going to do that very much. There are also fairly inexpencive airbrush out there that wount leave you with so much stuff to throw in the trash.

Such perfect timing for me! I have invested in an airbrush and compressor but they don't work well, and this system looks so much more effective and inexpensive! The fact that spraying over templates is possible with terrific results is really really exciting. Thanks so much!

Instead of using so much water I would suggest adding Darvan 7 or another defloculant to achieve what you were after. And you don't need to wait as long for it to dry.

@@hobbypotter looks great I found 6 packs of smaller containers so I don’t have to mix as much. I figure with a 45 degree angle this will help. I totally love the new velvet spray on but they are out of my price range, this is perfect and I can use other underglazes as well. Can’t wait

Thanks, Tammy Jo. Looks like a little dreamboat I certainly want to get! Will check out if it's available in SA. Otherwise Amazon ... Any suggestions for a bigger sprayer? I'm thinking about for the larger planters etc that I make. Also love it that it works so well with templates!

Looks like it works really well! I'd like some clarification though: does it deliver 16 oz of fluid and then it's done and you need to toss it and get a new one? Or can it be recharged somehow?
@hobbypotter
@hobbypotter 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The special compressed air cartridges are replaceable and the glass jars are reusable. I think the 16 oz delivery is referring to the cartridge but haven't used that much yet 😜.

Great video. Do you have any idea of what the ratio of underglaze to water is?
@hobbypotter
@hobbypotter 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't have an exact ratio....I would say a milk consistency, not a thick cream. If you see the consistency I poured it into the sieve, that was a little too thick for the sprayer, so I added about .5 ounce-ish??

Was this piece bisque fired prior to spraying?
@hobbypotter

@@hobbypotter thank you! If you put on a clear glossy/matte over glaze that had a hotter cone rating than the underglaze, would you just fire at the higher temp of the overglaze?
@hobbypotter
@hobbypotter 8 ай бұрын
@@ArvinAbadilla Underglaze is (basically) stains and clay so they can be fired to cone 5 and beyond. .BUT... You will want to test it to be sure it works with your glazes. Some underglaze colors burn out at higher temperatures, or change . The colors are not always as vibrant as they would be at a lower firing temperature. You will also want to be sure that the underglaze works well with your transparent glaze. Make test tiles to see what you like and how well they work for you at your desired temperature :D
@ArvinAbadilla
@ArvinAbadilla 8 ай бұрын
@@hobbypotter thank you!
@hobbypotter
@hobbypotter 8 ай бұрын
@@ArvinAbadilla Yes, Test your colors by applying underglazes to bisque, let them dry completely and covering them with a clear glaze to start. Then fire them to the desired temp. Since underglaze has a large firing range cone 06 to cone 10. Just remember, the hotter you get the more chance you have for a color to burn out or change ... especially your purples and pinks. Differnt brands of underglaze also react differently ... that's why you'll want to do tests ;D

so, you strained the underglaze and used a rib to push it through, and then dripped the unstrained glaze off of the rib and into the strained glaze...gotcha.
@hobbypotter
@hobbypotter 3 жыл бұрын
Lol... yes... and no😁 Because whatever was to big did not go through the mesh (it was sitting in top.) I didn't necessarily push particles too through... they were still on top of the mesh surface. The underglaze was thicker than water, so it collected on the underside, but strained. 😉
