#ScottiesClockWorld #ClockPartsExplained
In this video I explain the workings of a mechanical clock mainspring.
How the individual dimensions of the mainspring relate to the power of the spring, and the length of time the movement will run for, 30 hours, 8 day movements and 30 day movements.
I also show problems on a couple of reject mainsprings and why the problem dictates that the mainspring must be repaired or rejected.
Tears and scratches on mainsprings become Stress Multipliers when the spring is under tension once it has been wound up.
I explain how to go about repairing the problems on these mainsprings.
An example of the correct shape for the hole in a Hole End Mainspring and the explanation why the hole is that shape.
How to use a round Rat Tail file to finish off the hole repair.
