Found bubba'd Smith-Corona in a pawn shop some years back, missing the sights and a funky stock but the metal was all there. It shot the best 1903A3 groups I ever sent downrange, so I put it back together with proper stock, sights, etc. Can't think what might have possessed me to part with it but somebody is bragging it up at the range right now.

What kind of groups were you getting?

I recently overhauled a November 1942 Remington M1903A3 here. Markings indicate that it was refurbed at the Augusta, GA arsenal at some point (stock replaced with Augusta markings on it). Also I suspect that the rear sight was replaced; it's blued, and the rest of the rifle is Parkerized. Barrel appears to be one of the 2 groove ones; some of the early wartime rifles were still getting 4 groove from existing parts stocks. Once these have the ancient lubes and protectants cleaned out (cosmoline), and the obvious parts replaced (i.e., ejector and extractor), these are VERY fine rifles... not real pretty, but very solid and quite accurate weapons. One thing that makes these very desirable for overhauls... after all these decades there are STILL tons of parts out there at quite reasonable prices.

Absolutely a fantastic rifle. One day a friend who asked me to zero his rifle because he don't know anything about it and I was glad to do it. So I chose to get some American Eagle 150 grain FMJ for it. It zeroed in 9 rounds at an 8 inch NRA bullseye at 100 yards. Then some dude challenged me for $50.00 at an 8X8 inch steel target at 100 yards for 8 rounds to his Harrington Richardson M1 Garand he had zeroed which took him 16 rounds which is 2 clips using surplus Winchester Ball from the 1950s. With a coin toss he won to shoot first. He put 6 on steel and missed 2, he was a very good shot. My turn came and I put 7 on steel and missed one by an inch. Oh he got mad!!😡😡😡So he wanted to shoot again after he paid me first. This time he shot 5 into the steel and I got all 8 into the steel, at the end I won $100.00 from him. He was very angry..😡😡😡😫😫😫. This guy avoided me at the range any weekend he saw me there. My friend's M1903A3 was an IBM 1944 rifle in fantastic almost new condition. I brought it back to him zeroed with the proof targets and the left over ammo and told him the story. He was thrilled and laughed. Always be a happy and competent rifleman.😜😜😜😜

Lol sounds like it either wasn’t his day or you officially proved the accuracy argument between the M1 Garand and 1903

A M1903A3 made by IBM???? I agree it must have been fantastic unless a typo is involved.

What is interesting about the 1903 Springfield stocks is they come in two flavors of Walnut stock Black Walnut and White Walnut stocks.

My Smith-Corona M1903-A3 was made just shortly before yours! Mine is a September of 43 dated rifle. Also, the reason the cut off is still present is because it would have cost more money to redraw and reissue prints that omit that feature. It was originally there because in 1903 it was still an Army requirement to have that there. Doctrine at the time was to still train troops to fight in firing lines. Napoleonic tactics were still being practiced. Old doctrine suggested that having access to all 5 rounds would be bad because troops would be more inclined to waste ammunition. Single fire taking all commands from the line officer was the idea still. Most nations by that point had abandoned it, but the US still held firm to keeping it. Requirements like having a bayonet lug remained up until recently. M4A1's off the line still needed to have their bayonet lug on the gas block and barrel length to accommodate the M7/M9 Bayonet. Sorry for the long comment but there's a few fun facts for ya in case you didn't know :) great video man!

I own a 1903 ww1 used made in 1918 and got a new barrel in august 1944, it got some bloodspots on the reciever/chamber which makes it amazing to own but also kinda creeps me out

I had an unissued 43 Remington, sold it due to the stock cracking. Plus the peep sight really messed with my eyes with that thin front sight, I’d like to find a nice original 1903, as I usually prefer v notch

Oh Droooool!! Put it against the P14, both were used with and wthout scopes as sniping rifles in both wars. that mag cut off would allow you to launch a rifle grenade , and still have a full magazine, so does have some use.

I noticed that the Smith coronas Sell for a little bit more than the remington version. Is that because there were less of them made by smith C or is there a different reason? I have a Remington model And I’m offered a Smith corona for someone right now and curious of why the valued be slightly more.
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry11 ай бұрын
They are a bit more scarce and considered to be of somewhat higher build quality, for those reasons they do typically sell for a bit more

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry is it reasonable to say that it would be worth $800? That’s what I’m being offered. I paid 700 for the Remington. Both are in very good shape

I am talking with a pal about acquiring his 03A3. It's an SC that appears to be unissued. Seriously, no marks on screw heads even. We are trying to establish a value. Your opinion?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry2 жыл бұрын
Mint condition, between $800 and $1,000, at least that’s the pricing I see around here. I believe I paid about $850 from mine but I wouldn’t spend over $1,000 on an 03A3 regardless of condition. Hope that helps!
