Horse Girl's overweight horse is starting to founder, but she doesn't want to hear what Dr. Lacher has to say about it, and she really doesn't want to hear the treatment plan!!!

But beet pulp’s ok , right? Asking for a friend.

The question is not "Is beet pulp ok?", it's how much beet pulp is ok ;) And the answer is not very much. I keep them to 1-2 pounds of DRY beet pulp per day, then soak it to feed.

What's a good low-sugar electrolyte? Are electrolytes even necessary if the horse has free access to loose mineral salt and doesn't work hard enough to sweat every day?

2 parts table salt, 2 parts lite salt, and 1 part crushed Tums tablets or dolomite powder for electrolytes. Though I don't overly worry about sugar in electrolytes. Relatively speaking, it's not a huge quantity. Apple-A-Day from Finish Line is also low sugar. If your horse isn't working hard enough to sweat then just having plain salt available will be plenty as long as they also receive a ration balancer or complete diet. Concentrates will fill in the missing trace minerals.
