Springlock Endo Rod - Proof of Concept Test (Old/Abandoned)

Here is something back from before I started posting regularly on this channel, it would have been around the summer of 2019 when I built this. While I was noodling around working on my Withered Bonnie project, I decided to have a bit of fun with the idea of ‘springlock’ endoskeletons from the FNaF games: Where all the robotic parts can be disengaged and compressed around the interior of the costume, allowing it to be worn by a person.
This idea is not within my ability to achieve. Not even close. But, I thought I might as well just toy with the idea to see what came out of it, resulting in this. This is a forearm piece, where an inner rod (representing the endoskeleton arm) splits in two and folds away, making room for a human arm to fit between them. The hypothetical upper arm would then do the same thing, swinging down to clamp around the pin to make something that at least looks and moves like an elbow joint. Whether it would actually be in any way helpful as a robotic arm is another matter entirely.

Making a springlock suit is my most common comment request, and while I have no plans to open that can of worms anytime soon, I might as well share the meddlings I’ve done with that idea in the past. This is a forearm, and the hypothetical upper arm would have had its own Endo parts swing down just like this to clamp around that pin you can see protruding from end of the rod- and presto, you have an internal skeleton arm with its own elbow joint, fully retractable into the inside walls of the sleeve. Those two extra protrusions from the sides of the rim would be part of a hinge, to keep the two arm segments properly aligned for the gimmick to work. Of course, even if I made an entire suit out of tricks like this, the imitation would only be surface level. What you’d have at the end is a limp suit with the option to fill it with articulated Endoskeleton parts, but those would play no part in making it move, and they would rely entirely on the outer shell holding everything together. Still, all I was going for with this was the idea of retractable internal parts that could be rearranged around the insides to accommodate a person instead. And by that standard, I’m fairly happy with this test.

Could easily see this as the design in a horror movie. Imagine those metal bits snapping closed, piercing flesh and shattering bone. If I were to shoot a springlock failure for a movie or series, I'd have one go off, probably the forearm. The victim screams and looks in dumb horror as blood slowly patters from the unseen wound. There's a beat of sheer tension and terror. Then another fails. And another. And soon the vibrations are setting the rest off. It sounds like mouse traps in concert. The last, glorious shot would be two human eyes popping from the suit's sockets like champagne corks, the goofy, mildly-pleased eyes of the animatronic displacing them. You'd have to establish the force behind the locks, beforehand, of course. Show one going off without anyone in the suit. That way, when it happens, we KNOW how bad it's going to be.

I've been thinking about this type of thing a lot. Especially after reading "The Silver Eyes" graphic novel. One thing that confuses me is the head. There is no noticable head joint. Just these hooks (the springlocks). I would love to know how in the world these suits truly worked, but it's hard to find information that basically doesn't exist except in the world of Five Nights at Freddy's. This goes the same for the feet. How do they compress, when on Springtrap, they look like a solid piece of steel? Unless they're like shoes, I don't see how they would work.
@withereddanthefnaffan98

I feel that the feet are just empty, and a human foot can fit in there, and around the ankle, there is the piece that bends and makes the animatronic move its foot in non-suit mode. About the head, some people think that there is a circle around the head of the human, and the animatroni eyes are basically like sunglasses, in front of the human eyes. Idk, it's all just a theory. A ga-

I think that's where the suits are a bit confusing as well. However, I think I know the answer. The springlock suits are referred to as having an animatronic-mode and a suit-mode. This leads me to believe that the springlocks actually keep the very endoskeleton out of the way, and not just hooks and rods that would attach to it. After all, there's no reason why a suit worn by a person couldn't be worn by a robot without metal spikes and hooks being involved (at most they'd be on the endoskeleton)
@JAWZ2232
@JAWZ2232 2 жыл бұрын
@@withereddanthefnaffan98 If that is true about the head, I still don't see how the animatronic could turn its head or open its jaw with out a neck joint when in animatronic mode. The feet have the same problem. The ankle joint yet again looks like a solid ball of steel. A human ankle wouldn't be able to fit through that. I hope Scott or whoever's going to be taking over from here releases some actual blueprint for a spring lock suit.

@@JAWZ2232 look at the Help Wanted model of Mangle to see what I'm talking about, for the foot. There are two bars that are attached to the Endo foot, and those are instead of the FNaF 1 Endo ball-like joint. For the head, it's similar for how it connects to the Endo torso, there is just an empty cylinder, that can open in half, and the neck can fit in. Somehow connected to it is a circle holding the animatronic eyes. Idk, I could try drawing it to you, but I wouldn't be able to send it to you-

That's a really nice version of it. The endoskeletons in the first sets of games have rather simplistic joints, which I doubt even worked alone in springlock suits - the folding ones would most likely contract at the outer parts, while those endoskeletons seen outside of costumes would be a different variant, intended for the costume to just be put onto it. Presumably both use the same base model of endoskeleton with the springlock variant modified, but since it's part of the costume, it can be taken apart like that too (and indeed is in the first book, after all). One note is that they would need unique attachment points to attach the mechanisms so it all triggers as one and so the costume doesn't fall apart before the suit retracts. I don't think it was ever mentioned how the pieces retract, either, but it might well have just been manually fighting the springs until it locks into place.

Always thought springtrap having the majority of his skeleton missing was silly, replaced with a somewhat bland endoskeleton and flesh-ribbons. Having an amalgam of half-extended animatronics components almost grafted against what remains of Afton would be: 1) Metal as hell 2) More showing of the gruesome fate Afton got (and deserved) Imagining the two sides clamping down is definitely... the new headcannon.

This all comes down to modelling. I don't think how afton is depicted in 3 is how he looks like in universe. The toy animatronics for example only have a few rods for endoskeletons, that doesn't mean that's how they actually look like.

Imagine if someone made a working performing animatronic and you helped making the mechanism go to the side of the suit so you could enter it. But that would be an actual springlock suit and it would be dangerous. Unless you made it so the springlocks are just foam or fragile plastic so they break if something is in the way instead of death.

This is very very accurate because hoses and cylinders and valves are things in animatronics I'll call them animatronic parts for short you'd have to disconnect the hoses and then pull them to the side along with the endo and since it's all disconnected it would not function right giving it a reason to be pushed back in place and why they couldn't just slip it on it also has an easy way to kill you too the only problem is that you have to assume that the animatronic can walk because real life Chuck e cheese's animatronics can't walk obviously and if they use those same mechanisms the animatronic would likely fall over hurting somebody and they would also have to be able to bend its knee and considering both Fazbear entertainment and Chuck e cheese are companies that lose a lot of money and if the animatronic can't walk then there would be no reason to use the suit so what kind of be a waste of money actually never mind this is a terrible idea still accurate though the companies are pretty stupid
