Trying to change your running technique is not easy. Many runners think the biggest obstacle is that they have difficulty coordinating new movements so they feel relaxed and natural. But a big problem that many people don't realise is that most recreational runners have no idea what they look like when they run. That's why you might be surprised when you run past a shop window and see your reflection. The beautiful posture you thought you had turns out to be nothing like what you see. The same with how you land. Far from everyone actually knows whether they land on their heel, forefoot or midfoot, despite being convinced they can feel it. And it's certainly not just a few runners who have a poor understanding of how they move. For many years I've done nothing else all day but help runners become more efficient. And it's the same thing several times a day. Runners who lean very much forward even after I have tried to get them to lean a little less are convinced that they are leaning backwards. And runners who think they have their hands almost at their chin actually have them at their belly button at most. But there is a simple remedy for this, as you will learn in the video.

"Fantastic running course. Fredrik is an excellent teacher with a unique approach. I highly recommend this course to runners of all levels."
Kevin, UK
"The best money I have ever spent. Great mix of humour, practical technique and theory. It’s brilliant and I have been telling all my friends about it. I’ve knocked 30 secs off my average pace to 4:30 and at 53 I’m absolutely astonished how relaxed I feel running. It’s also really helped my cycling my adapting similar techniques and visualisation. Thanks so much."
Paul, UK
"Just wanted to say Im 2/3 through your running program and WOW what an insane difference".
Runner, Texas, USA
”I have done the first two audio lessons now. It's amazing what a difference you made for me. I ran 90 minutes yesterday and have never felt so refreshed both during and after the workout, and then I have never run so fast with the same low heart rate. Thanks for that!!”
Update from a runner after two of the six audio lessons
"I can honestly say it is some of the clearest and best instruction I have ever recieved in any topic. After a year of shin splints I went for a run yesterday and was almost in (joyful) tears because I had zero pain, so thank you!!"
Andrew
”I got your online course and it almost instantly fixed my running form. I can prove that by having half an hour faster marathon finishing time.”
Runner, Indonesia
"I knew nothing about running other than put one foot forward in front of the other...and fast. Then I signed up for his course. Mind blowing!... and too cheap if you ask me. Totally recommend it."

I constantly record myself in CrossFit practicing technique, lifts, etc for the same reason - my “feel” of the lift is often totally wrong! Great video and channel.

I've filmed myself in martial arts, too. It's a great way to help correct problems with form. Your "feel", as you said, is often wrong or at least incomplete. Even today, I took a quick video of me running after my workout (by the way, I suggest doing these things after your training when you're tired so your bad habits come forward). I knew I landed mid-foot/forefoot. The video confirmed it. What I didn't "feel" was how much I over pronate. Also, there's some hip drop. None of this I could feel, but I could see it on video plain as day.

Fascinating. I'm sure that if I try to look at my feet while running, I'll throw my whole running action out and observe essentially nonsense. 😂. As you say, the only way is to get someone else to film it.

Good video👍🏻, do you have any videos on shoe drops for different styles of foot landing?

Yes I like that video! It must be so much fun to think something then realized that we are doing something else when looking at ourself on the video. I think I will video myself running as I am sure that I am not running properly as if I did I would be running much faster without becoming so tired when I run!

Can you post a video on how one can go about changing their running technique? It’s incredibly hard to make even the smallest change consistently over a long period of time. Eg. I’m told by the PT that my hips stick out more than needed and glutes aren’t as involved as they should be. I don’t know what I should do with that info in practice.

Could you make a video about cross-over gait landing patterns and hip drop...? I'm interested in what the truth is there. :)

I had my foot strike analysed on treadmill in shop off guy selling runners thought I was forefoot striker and I clearly was. He told me if you want to know were you land on your foot. SIMPLY look at at the sole of your runners the wear pattern will tell you everything and can be slightly different on each foot. All true.

Interesting, I've always been totally sure that I land on my forefoot, and I'm still convinced that I do. It feels almost insane that you can get that wrong, so who knows, perhaps I'm a heal lander after all. This finally piqued my interest enough that'll film myself, thanks. I wonder what other shocking discoveries I'll find.

Everyone I coached in technique wasn’t doing what they thought they were doing. They were baffled that they were still getting injured. When I videoed them and showed them, they still found it hard to believe that’s what they were doing! 🤯

If I try to run on my forefeet, I never feel my heels on the ground. For me it takes a lot of energy to do that and I always wonder if there are but any ultramarathon runners, that run always on their forefeet.

There are also special shoe soles you can buy that can show you how your foot is loaded with each step. Or you can film yourself. It's cheaper :). The big problem is what to do with the information you get from a shoe or insole. Say you now know how you load your foot, is it good or bad? And if it's bad, what do you do about it? It is rarely a good idea to try to change what you are doing in your foot as much is determined long before the foot starts to approach the ground.

Interesting. But I won’t be filming myself run as I already know 100% how my technique looks and it is already perfect. Everyone else is clearly stupid.

You haven't seen the whole video, have you? I have a person running barefoot as an example. I've also met lots of barefoot runners who have no idea how they land. Surprisingly many land on their heels. But they don't know that until I film them.

@@SpringSnabbare Maybe their sense is lost after so many years of constant footwear? Something like phantom limb syndrome except they loose 1-2 cm on heel drop instead of whole limb.
