Peaked too soon haha, nice peak though, cleaned up amazingly. I really like your level of self preservation, risk level assessment and all. I'm a firm believer in knowing your capabilities and staying near your comfort zone. Over all a very risky trip, nuclear power plants, leaking tanks, slimy slippery rocks, crumbling gravel cliff faces, dogs with sticks, what a list. My wife and I debate if we will cut certain rocks or not, some just give a "I'm perfect the way I am" vibe and ya can't mess with it.

That was an amazing CBA, Sarah! The fact that you found it, right by the car, was awesome! And it was nice, just to be able to get out, and look for rocks! It was a long, cold winter and we are glad it's over! And a nice collection of smalls Jared! But that CBA was amazing! It was an exceptional beauty and good size! I'm so happy that you two found it! It kind of gives you the determination to get and keep going! And all those rocks, and it's not often that people actually find something like that out there, so it's an amazing find! Thanks for the video and it reminds me, it's a beautiful day, and I need to get myself outside! Thanks Jared!

When teaching topography in science told the students for every 300’ elevation gain you expend a mile of energy therefore, you did do more than a mile as you went up and down quite a few times. Loved the agate Sarah found.

Thanks for the ride along. Its been a while since our last trip out for rocks. Sarah's jasper looks like the fire jasper we picked out of the mountain at Richardsons Ranch. Im originally from MN. You want to talk agates! Our state rock is the agate, esp from Duluth area around Lake Superior.❤ Now those are some fine specimens.

So fun to see you out there. I just squealed out loud when I saw Sarah's agate on Facebook, and came right over. Good job! You're not wrong about the "heaps of agates." That's why I sell stuff - so I can make room for more finds. For me, it's the finding that's exciting - but I could never leave one behind. OK, last edit - you just showed Sarah's agate oiled and cleaned, and my mouth literally fell open.

I think that area is part of the Troutdale formation (which is huge). It was left by the Missoula floods way back when. It extends all the way into Portland as well. I once picked up one of those "Quartz" nodules and cut it. The center was a beautiful flame pattern, so don't discount all of them. Although the one Sara found is pretty nice too.
@CurrentlyRockhounding

This exact formation is the Ringold formation which was also pretty much backwash from the Missoula flood as they finished.

Thank you for the post folks, much appreciated! Looked like a really nice relaxing day to wander about looking for goodies along the river IMO~ That river scum is quite annoying when desperatly hunting for that magical next bit of beautiful mother earth to enjoy. 🤪🤪 The CBA that Sara found is very pretty, excellent find!👍 Also, I personally like the videos better when Sara is mic'd up and getting to hear you both chatting/goofing around and having fun out adventuring!✔Also, is it time to put your cute companion puppy to work n put camera on Likia(?) as it's a team effort? haha Anyway, appreciate the content sir, madam and companion pooch, hope you all have a super weekend ahead!

Whoa weird! There used to be a town called Hamburg near where I live. It was bought out by the government at the beginning of WW2 and used to produce TNT and later plutonium. I think it was involved in the Manhattan Project but I’m not sure. Anyway the town is long gone but it’s an interesting place you can tell where the houses used to be. It’s all a conservation area now

Sarah's rock is cool as sh_ _!! Let us know if the little rock stuck inside is anything cool. A topic suggestion. A discussion on how coal is formed. I recently watched a History video about man-made items that have been found inside lumps of coal. One object looked to be a small iron smelting pot with pour spouts opposite each other. It came from 300 million yr old coal and was found 142 feet below the surface. The chunk that came out of the wall was too large to carry, so the worker took a sledgehammer to it. When the hammer hit, the chunk of coal split in half, and out fell the pot. You could see the impression that was a mirror of the pot. Another item was a large gold, a multi-linked chain with 3 large beads on it. A woman had a delivery of coal and one piece was too large to go into the burner. So she took a hammer to it and what looked to be something encased like an electrical wire has a plastic, or rubber sheath around it sticking out. So she carefully chipped away at the coal until she revealed the necklace. The coal was estimated to be 200-250 million years old! The obvious, or the first thing that comes to my mind is how did it get there? If it fell into the material that forms coal, why wasn't the gold melted? Can you explain, the best you can, how coal is formed and your thoughts on how these objects (and many, many more) are being found in coal mines more than 100 ft underground? And in material that was formed hundreds of millions of years ago? This subject in the field of archeology is being swept under the rug because no scientist is willing to challenge Darwin's theory of the timeline of humans. There are only a few in the field of archeology and creationism who are open to the possibilities of civilizations living here on Earth millions of years ago. Unfortunately, their work is usually shunned and tossed off as non-sense. Thank you for all that you do for this hobby.

I think of Fir road as an area you need to cover a lot of ground to find more than a couple of agates. Though, i just get really bored and anxious climbing steep loose slopes to looking for rocks, so i just go the easier and safer route. I usually find about 15-25 agates every time i go, but I'm usually dedicating 4-7 hours of my day and walking 3-5 miles during that trip. I prefer walking in far enough in where most people don't want to walk. In regards to the land owner there near the bottom, i do believe they own most of the area 300 yards in from the end of Fir according to OnXHunt. Though the property line is shown going right through the middle of their lawn, but i think that's just an error with the data. I wouldn't personally go any further than 12 feet off the road uphill until you get to the actual large cliffs further down. They also have two large Labradors they allow to free roam, they aren't "I'm going to maul you" aggressive, they do bark and growl at you, but i would be cautious, especially with Laika.
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding Жыл бұрын
Yeah it is an area that you really need to spend a bunch of time looking around at with careful eyes. We have had interactions with that land owners loose dog and it came very close to getting a face full of pepper spray.

It is obvious to me, I may be wrong, but the water does reach over to the road in many places when it is high such as after heavy rains. You can see the slim-green coating on the soil and rocks. It's very unfortunate that the government can not contain the leak. Personally, I wouldn't be touching anything or taking home any materials from there that are most likely contaminated. It would be interesting if you took a gigor counter out to that site to see if that area has been contaminated. Can you imagine! And why is fishing in that river aloud? I'm actually surprised that anything is living in the river. Now that I just spouted off my uninformed opinion, I should go answer the questions I posed in this comment, lol. The landscape is very barren looking. Is the non-public lands used for anything?

Made my first visit. Upon arrival immediately ran into a very unpleasant land owner out walking her leashed dogs. Despite my following all common sense rules she basically assumed I would trespass her property and destroy the public road. I got back in my car and let her pass. 10 minutes later her dogs returned unleashed and I had to posture and yell at them to scare them off. Because of her behavior, I assume "falling rocks" are actually her throwing things at people from above. Beware.

What do you mean by "if it weren't for Hanford there, it would be a good place to swim"? It's a good place to swim anyways. Although it's much better for fishing. Hanford isn't something anyone should worry about.
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding Жыл бұрын
I mean that its is a failed cleanup operation that has been endlessly in the news over the years and have had countless issues, tank leaks, tunnel collapses, coverups, and whistleblower retaliation. If you think the Hanford Nuclear Site doesn't poses a long-term threat of contamination to the Columbia you don't understand what has happened there in the past, and is likely happening now. When you say "Hanford isn't something anyone should worry about." what are you basing that on?
