Springtime Boondocking - Arctic Fox 811. The warmer temperatures have opened up the backroads giving way to one of our favorite boondocking sites. The snow is melting and the wildlife is roaming after a long winter. We are joined by our friends Michael & Devin from ‪@OffroadGetaway‬for a fun camp in the backwoods.

at 12' height clearance you could do a suspension lift and larger tires to get a better departure angle for sure.

We ended up adding a leaf and it helped a lot. We just have to remember it is not a jeep lol.

You might find all you need is to add some Torklift Lift Stable Loads and you’ll probably be good.

We just got our 811 and love it! We have ours on a F250 Ford diesel, but we added front sway bars and beefed up our sway bars in the back with Helwig, and we put super springs on and tightened them up to the middle holes and have airbags, (needed airabags for our 5th wheel) Did you cover up your stove? and if you were boondocking, how did you get your keurig to work? We have solar on ours, but I don't think any plugs work on solar...Alberta is on our bucket list!! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for watching! We ended up getting an extra leaf added and it made a huge difference. We will be adding a sway bar later on, but our 1 tonne with factory airbags is handling the load quite nicely for now. As for your questions, I usually just put a wooden cutting board on the stove to protect the glass (when not in use) and we have an on board generator that we turn on when using the keurig, I hope you get to visit Alberta some day. Thank you again, and Happy Camping.

Glad I came across your channel. You make a great 'test case'; no offense meant. My wife and I just took possession of our 2022 Ram 3500 Crew Cab SRW. We currently have a small travel trailer, but hopefully will add to our repertoire an overhead camper. Am curious as to how your truck handles it. I too, purchased the factory air suspension. You mention having another spring added? Did you feel the need, b/c of the overhead camper? Looking for an overhead camper, I am trying to stay under 2,500 lbs/1,130kg. I believe the 811 is right under 3,000lbs/1,360kg. Do you feel as if that camper is pushing the limits of the truck? Appreciate your thoughts and thanks for your time. Great videos. Stay safe and enjoy your travels.

Thank you so much and we are honored to be your “test case” lol. The truck handles the camper very well. We decided to add the extra leaf because we felt it was maxing out the suspension (especially taking it off the beaten path). Since adding to the suspension, the ride feels much firmer and more stable. We definitely would not go with a larger camper on a single axle. When we were researching truck campers, we chose the Arctic Fox because of the build and the 4 season capabilities since we live in Northern Alberta. The only options we had because we have the short box were the 811 (with slide), or the 865 (no slide). This is because of weight restrictions. If you are wanting to stay under 2500# you may have to look at another brand. Our 811 is 3385# so the 865 would be about 500# lighter which is still over your 2500# limit. We would suggest an important upgrade would be tires. We chose to upgrade our tires when we were hauling our 38’ 5th wheel toyhauler and feel the extra cost is well worth the piece of mind. I hope we have given you the answers you need. Thank you and Happy Camping!

I am contemplating a truck bed camper, popup truck bed camper, or a rooftop tent. I like the convenience and comfort that I see on your Arctic Fox, but the ground clearance challenge that I saw you face and the rocking back and forth makes me second guess going with a full truck bed camper like yours. How much sway do you feel going down the road normally? It looked top heavy on the video as it rocked back and forth, but maybe that's just an illusion? What is it like to actually drive this beast?

Thank you for your comment. We used to run a rooftop tent on the jeeps and they have their advantages. The Arctic Fox is a completely different set up. It all depends on what type of camping you want to do. To really go off-grid, I would suggest the rooftop tent. If you want to do semi-off-road with more conveniences, then the truck camper would be an option. All that matters is that you are out enjoying the wilderness. Happy Camping. Thanks for watching.

Does anyone make a sensor for the back end of a TC to inform the driver of impending impact such as you experienced on the first entry attempt?
