I believe they are in portage Indiana. Right by my house. That time of year there's no need for downriggers unless for trout. The coho usually are in the 5 to 10 ft depth for trolling

The color on those Lake Trout was stellar! Cool open water episode to get the season underway! Looking forward to the next one!

Don’t deploy your rods until after you’ve activated your Ulterra and set your troll. Spring Coho are NOT boat shy, so you don’t need to run your boards so far out (which of course will allow you to make tighter turns inside the pack). Set your boards to release on command and slide down the main line to the swivel at the top of your leader; this allows you and your buddies to reel in and net each fish without having to monkey with the board. Nice Laker! That area is known for good Lake Trout fishing in the Spring and Fall. Thanks for the video; I’d pull my Triton up to your neck of the woods, but it’s difficult to “leave fish to find fish”….😂

How deep were your peanut flys running? I fish for cohos in the same area and have found at this time of year they like them VERY shallow: 8 - 15 ft down from the surface. I don’t even use leadcore- either dipsys for the deeper ones, or just 20-30 ft of braid out from your boards to a 5/8 oz keel sinker to a 5 ft mono leader then your dodger then your 18 inch leader to fly.

Those thin fins are also a great summer night walleye lure to cast or troll on flats. Also I may be the only guy running them on downriggers for summer kings. They catch everything.

Good to know!! Yes, they seem like a great year round bait! Thin fins for Kings?? Yes please! ha.

I have a 2020 Lowe 1775sc with a 90hp merc. I have never been out on lake michigan before but have been on large inland lakes. What kind of wave height is safe for my boat and what height should I stay away from?

I run the same down riggers you do. I fish mainly walleye on the Missouri River system and have lots of fish in the 16-20” range. What release would you recommend for light bites?

Is there a reason you don’t bleed and ice your catch? Nice vid BTW.

Havent noticed a direct increase in the quality of salmon meat when you bleed them. Walleyes and trout, yes but not with the salmon.

Manuals always work. Period. Plenty of things to go wrong with electrics such as fuses, internal components, auto-stop failing etc. It's just a personal preference, to each their own.

How do you run so many planer boards without getting tangled? Especially on those outside boards?
@SuperiorAngling5 жыл бұрын
If your boat is set up properly, its not too hard to do. Just let enough line out to separate your boards. With a little practice you can get the hang of it. Outside board is connected to the top rod in our rod holder.
@timh82575 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think I’ll have to be a little more patient. It seems like I will pull the fish (or weeds) thru my other lines. So, I feel like I have to real up the other lines.

LOL. We had plenty of meat from the salmon. Happy to let those trout go. Doesnt seem to be a huge population of them down there by any means. Could be wrong however.

@@SuperiorAngling No I mean were trying to get the lake revived and our alewives back. I'll send ya a buck for every greaser I see boxed 🖒
@SuperiorAngling5 жыл бұрын
@@reveredoutdoors1480 haha. What is the primary forage for your lake trout in that area? Gobies? Alewives?
@reveredoutdoors14805 жыл бұрын
@@SuperiorAngling Personally I've never cleaned one with anything but alewives in its belly. But they've all come incidentally on salmon sets so I really don't know what happens on the bottom. The browns do a good job of keeping the gobies in check and everyone wants to keep the brown trout around. Lake trout just don't generate money in lake Michigan like the salmon do. You were just proof of that. BTW you should come back in a month or so when the fishin' gets GOOD 🤘
@SuperiorAngling5 жыл бұрын
@@reveredoutdoors1480 Makes sense. We are planning a lake trout jigging trip over that way soon, but realize we are the minority and have a weird obsession with those greasy things, and yes, not many chase them over there (which is why we want to come) You have a good bite going in Mind-late may eh? Kings or Cohos or both?

Beautiful boat and gear. But manual downriggers? You've spent tens of thousands of dollars...why not a few more hundred for electrics?!! Nice video !
@SuperiorAngling4 жыл бұрын
Manuals are more reliable in our opinion. Dont have to worry about fuses tripping in the rigger itself, electrical issues, wiring and more. Additionally, a lot of our fishing is in 80 feet or less so we can get a manual up just as quick.
