Today on Expediting America we start off with a text message from dispatch about a load going from Lincoln Rhode Island to Findlay Ohio. This is my 4th time running a similar load for this shipper to the same receiver. We are hauling 3 pallets with a weight of around 1500lbs for a manufacturer that makes parts for Honda pilots. The pick up is 4PM Eastern time and the delivery is set for 8AM. Being that it's a 12 hour drive I ended up driving straight through for a direct delivery and arriving at 6:30AM.
My name is Brandon. I am a sprinter van / cargo van expeditor. I drive a 2020 Mercedes Benz sprinter van 2500 170 extended with a high roof for a small mom and pop logistics company. I bring my dog Bubba Jo with me and we hit the road for 4+ weeks at a time. Everyday my dispatcher goes on load boards and bids on jobs. I’m always hauling something different for a random company to a random location that can be right down the road or clear across the United States of America! I average 3-5k miles a week and don’t need a CDL license to drive.

With a cdl 600miles i make that in one night at my local ltl company, .77 a mile, $120000 a year home everynite. I think if its less then $2 mile park that van

@@messithor1284 sure of course and you should. A) you have your CDL. Which right now if I wanted to get would cost 1/4 of what it would cost for me to get my own van and be my own boss. If I went the cdl route and wanted to by my own boss with a big rig I’d be in debt 150k+ right off the bat. With 150k I could get 3-4 vans drive one van and put drivers in the others and gross $1 million plus with less regulation and red tape B) every day I see a semi either flipped over, on fire, or broke down. C) y’all get harassed by DOT all the time D) you have to stay at truck stops or rest areas E) gotta stop at weight stations, keep dot logs F) maintenance is expensive af for a semi. I’m good on all that. A lot of people get one major thing to fix and it puts them out the game. 18 wheels and breaks to maintain as apposed to 4. G) I don’t wanna keep going lol so yes I agree y’all should get paid more. You have to deal with so much more stuff. So yes you get paid more and you’re home. I also have no reason to be home as my lease is up, I have no kids, and my KZfaq channel will make more money for me in the long run. Appreciate you watching and stay safe out there on those roads.

@@ExpeditingAmerica But you didn’t read correctly, its ok. I m a company driver, i have no expense.Fuel repairs all up to my company. I work at OD, Old Dominion. 401k match health ins etc. At the end if you still getting $ 1.50 a mile which you just did, its not worth it. People make that $347 on a doordash. Just saying , milage pay is so low is all.

@@messithor1284 still a CDL costs 1/4 of what it would cost me to get my own van, authority, load boards etc. and I would have net $150k, paid off my van, and still don’t have to deal with all those other things I listed other than maintenance. Sure you get paid more. And your home. At that tax bracket I’d rather be a business owner with tax deductions and credits that I can write off. I’m enjoying the journey. Don’t really care if I’m home or not. I’ve eliminated all my bills except phone bill so I’m good brother and out of all my videos you will never see me once complain about what I make or cry about being on the road. I’m enjoying the journey, about to be an owner operator and have my own business that I will grow along with my KZfaq channel. Appreciate you trying to make me feel like I’m getting the shit end of the stick but someone somewhere will always make more and have reasons to why I should t do what I do. Lol You still had to take the time and money to get cdl. And it’s still not worth dealing with DOT and all the other things I mentioned (for me) if it’s for you then God bless man!

Sup B, hope all is well. What I ment by "creature comforts" was things we have at home that newbies might not realize are handy to have in the van. Just an example could be a sweet electronic that is a "must have" in your opinion. It's easy to set up a van from scratch watching info online, but after being on the road like you have I'm sure you know of things that new ppl may have unintentionally over looked. The tips, tricks and hacks are always appreciated.

Consider taking a percentage out for taxes when you do your breakdowns at the end. Uncle Sam always gets his share of whatever you make. Then your state Governor takes his cut as well. Just something to think about because no one seems to mention the taxman.

I would but honestly last year I almost deducted all my income with tax credits and daily per diems that I hardly paid any taxes. I spent 80% of last year on the road. Deducted everything possible

He doesn't screw around; too many people have found that out the hard way. Better to have the money and not need it rather than wonder how to pay a $25K tax bill at the end of the year.

I use ratchet straps hook them under the pallet and hook the other end to the fork lift and they pull it out.

No not otr. Most nights I sleep 12-4am then drive to receiver, sleep, wake up and do it all again. If you can find a way to do local work maybe it’s possible but it’s tough going the local route

I don’t like giving advice bout companies because of someone has a bad experience I feel bad. It’s all dependent on the person. I’ve heard good and bad about almost every company. Most drivers move to different companies many times. I’ve been blessed to be connected with good people off the bat. Best of luck. Join some of the fb groups they help out.

I love people like you. It’s not worth it to you. I was a driver for a company here. Paying my dues learning the business on someone else’s dime. I’m now owner operator and live a life I could never have imagined. Sure if you look at this one job it might not be worth it but this was a stepping stone. Don’t get so caught up in instant gratification that you lose sight of the big picture.
