Michal Gondko plays "Recercare" by Francesco Spinacino (from his Intabolatura de Lauto, Libro Primo, Venice, 1507) and "Rossina, Ain welscher dantz" (from Hans Judenkünig, Ain schone kunstliche underweisung, Vienna, 1523).
Preceeded here by a rhapsodic "Recercare" by Francesco Spinacino, "Rossina" - which needs not to be Hans Judenkünig's own composition - is strongly related to the fifteenth-century dance tenor "Voltate in ça Rosina" (in Guglielmo Ebreo / Giovanni Ambrosio da Pesaro, "De practica seu arte tripudii").
Instrument: 6-course viola da mano by Alexander Batov, reconstructed from the painting "Madonna and Child with Saints" (ca. 1520) by Girolamo dai Libri (1474/75-1555) in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, New York. For more information about the reconstructed instrument and the painting visit:

De hecho, en España donde más se utilizo la vihuela, era llamada " vihuela de mano", en contraposición a la " vihuela de arco", que no era otra cosa que la viola de gamba.

Very good ,espescially the first part perfect played very good timed in tempo and volume .I think its very hard to play with all the scales in flowing tempo very good a 10 for me .Greetings from Henk from the Netherlands - Leiden

Dear Michal, may I ask you what kind of strings you use here on basses? It looks like gut but what should be the plain gut bass diameter at such a short scale? It would be too thuck to fret I believe? Is it some special ly produced gut string? I am asking becasue I have very similar instrument and trying to find solution for bass courses. Thank you

Yes, A=440, 55 cm. This particular instrument is in A.

Typically vihuelas are tuned to G like your standard 6-course Renaissance lute. Not sure about his, though.
