@@Vector_Ze No they did not, there was no rocket able to lift 2 stage mission(with lander that was able to get back to Eart) and the 3 stage mission would need computer able to control the trajectory of the lander to go back to the ship on the orbit... Most of the "Moon rocks" distributed to ViPs all over the world are not from Moon... it was not posible to tell that in the 1970 but with modern tools it is. Tape from first landing->destroyed. Space-X rockets with modern komputer and modern algorithms were strugling to land empty rocket for how many months and how many times? All training simulators for Moon landing crashed and idea of using them labeled as too dangerous(because they did not have modern electronics that would made that posible...). But lets forget about last 50 years of IT and that best computer back then was million times weaker than worst PC sold today and programed in time when IT was in its infancy and most of efficient algorithms were unknown to the programers...

@@KHH595 not necessarily stole the V2 itself I think they also had Germans working with them as well because it wasn't just the US that got all the scientist. Also they were completely different Engines by that point the Soyuz used RD-107 engines which were vastly different from the V2s engines which during allied testing had lots of issues during flight. The first idea of a Liquid filled rocket was intended for space travel and was a Russian named Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky. The first test of a Liquid fueled rocket was from an American Robert H. Goddard in 1926. The 2 Germans Hermann Oberth and a student of his Wernher von Braun worked further on rocket engineering I think but may not be correct. Germany also had the VfR which was testing rockets from 1927 to 1934. It received funding for a bit from the German Empire but eventually dissolved as no funding was found later on. If you dive deep into the Beginning of rocketry it wasn't just the same GERMANY DID EVERYTHING they only continued the work further on. The Bazooka used in ww2 was actually tested much earlier and Goddard was the guy doing it in 1918. It's also the same with everyone just repeating the AK is am STG which is not even close. They only took the idea of an assault rifle but mechanically it was way closer mechanically to the M1 Garand, the STG is a tilting bolt while the Garand and AK function off a rotating bolt which is far more robust.

NOW your govt. are a different story. You have a leader who assassinates people who talk bad about him. You guys need to fix that. Though like I said you sound big into Putin and probably believe whatever he or your govt. tells you. I sure don't believe my govt, especially in the age of the internet when you can fact check with ease, and I don't think anyone reasonable really does. IDK if you've noticed but both USA and Russia NEED their citizens to hate other countries with their THEM VS US narrative. "The soviets used Sputnik to scare the Americans"...I'm not sure as I don't really know too much about the Cold war, but did the Soviets really launch the first man made object into space in order to just scare America, seems a bit far fetched to be honest. I find it very sad that a major part of our history was mostly all politics and neither the U.S nor the U.S.S.R could congratulate or appreciate the huge steps the other country had made in space, politics always get in the way.

Cold War-related or not, the Sputnik is absolutely fascinating, a true landmark in science. Because there’s actually a lot more to it than the Cold War and politics. Despite the body of the Sputnik being only the size of a beach ball, it helped us learn more about satellite pressurization, radio wave transmission, the density of the atmosphere, and how to better track objects in orbit. Also, if you think about it, many breakthroughs in the Space Age (which still goes on today) wouldn’t happen without the Sputnik!

It's crazy seeing the frightening amount of bigotry under the guise of nationalism during even as early as the 90's, and it's still prevalent today in the minds of senile old men and women, still fearful, or at least wary, of a nonexistent 'soviet takeover', going so far as to think Russians to be inhuman.

Without being too pedantic, Sputnik wasn't actually the first man-made thing in space. It was the first satellite to be launched into orbit, but rockets had been crossing the Kármán Line since the early 1940s, with the V2 missile. That's significant in understanding the early Space Race, because it provides context and background. Most rockets that entered space at that point either were weapons, or were derived from them. Concern about Sputnik focused more, really, on the R-7, the launch vehicle that put it into orbit. While the R-7 and the other designs initially derived from it weren't very practical for use in war, they were in effect the world's first ICBMs. Being able to put a satellite into orbit in a path that could cross the US didn't actually prove that the USSR could easily deliver a nuclear warhead there in 1957, but to most people, it felt like it did.

There’s a reason for this other than the “America was better and had superior technology” myth: After the subsequent disaster of Soyuz 1 and Sergei Korolev’s death, the Soviet Space Program took a pretty devastating blow, and a lot of future missions were cancelled and the moon landing plans scrapped. If you really think about it sputnik was the worst things Soviet union could’ve done they played their best card and never wore able to recover after that the first woman so what the big picture was what the US was looking at the Soviets were first in many things the first person to die in space the first person to crash to earth from space the first man to actually fly into space was not the man that they promoted and they eventually killed him in a Fake flying accident
