The reason she got returned because of her telepathy.The people who adopted her found it strange that she could read their hidden thoughts.So it must have frightened them and creeped them out since they did not know that she can use telepathy.That's why the drunk orphanage owner made such a comment regarding her. BUT as you said she is so ADORABLE and if it was me I would definitely adopt her even if she had telepathy.

For anyone who don't know yet, You don't pronounce the "x" in Spy x Family. Just like you don't in Hunter x Hunter.
