This is almost the end of the Spyderco high impact ceramic mule team blade saga. I say 'almost' simply because I still have to figure out how to sharpen it. However in this video you can find the most comprehensive abuse of this blade anyone has done so far. You will see a battle between Spyderco, a piece of stubborn wood and an innocent kitchen knife. I hope it is a good guide for anyone considering buying this blade in the secondary market.
Please be kind with me when sometimes in the video I say batoning but I clearly show (and mean) chopping. Don’t worry, there is even our beloved batoning in the video….

The ceramic knife should be able to be sharpened with a diamond plate! I would test it with a finer grit. Sharpening will take more time than with steel, but it should work.

@@IsitAKnife I used some resin bonded diamond stones to sharpen mine. Follow the instructions it comes with. Absolutely DO NOT go below 600 grit, I found out the hard way. It will microchip the edge and it will take at least an hour to fix, but once it is sharp it will hold a working edge for a long time. It doesn't hold a shaving edge for that long in my experience. But slices great forever.

I sharpen it on 1200 grit diamond plate if its really dull, then finish it on a piece of paper (3 piece of paper actually on top of each other, for more of a soft backing) with 1 micron diamond abrasive. It gets as sharp as glass, I'm impressed.

I cant believe you're able to do that with a ceramic blade! I would never even try that. I bought it for kitchen use.

Thanks. I have been too busy to try to sharpen it again. Once I'll try I will follow your advice. I agree with you that it is a very interesting material.

I doubt carbide would do much. It should be similar hardness to carbide. Diamond is the only option.
