You’ve mentioned the Southard being a Spydie-XM, but I never saw it, UNTIL you did a direct size comparison between the two. Now I’m convinced they are cousins 😂

Been eyeing one sense they came out I like it a lot. Lot of my preferences on this knife. No insert stonewashed blade bead blast frame and fde scale.

The cutout is shaped like that to put pressure on the front scale when you twist the knife instead of putting the pressure on the lock bar.

My hand burned for the tan one back in the day, but I never got one! Still a good looking knife!

Got the all black version still in the box, never used other than taking it out flipping a few times putting a drop of gun oil in the pivot and a TV companion now and again. That being said ,I have enjoyed it. Definitely a upgrade from the GC Spyderco.

Dyed my scales blue with rit as soon as I got one in 2015, starting to wear a bit around the edges but still looks fine. Have put holes in multiple pairs of pants with that pocket clip...

My black one had action issue when I got it. But after breaking in it performs well. It has actually become my hard user. I considered selling it a couple times for an American Lawman but eventually didn’t. It has more style and is rarer.

Don't do it. Keep the Spyderco.

The XM18 is no comparison to the Southard. Spyderco can get the flipping action perfectly. Hinderer just can't it right. Even with their ball bearing action. Also aside from the action the blade grind is perfection, with top notch blade steel. Overall the Spyderco stands shoulders above the XM18. Price not being considered it's still a better built all around woodsmans' knife. BTW I like the Hinderer also.

Seeing these knives again reminds me of J.Davis. He was a pretty good knife reviewer until he got 'caught' up in the internet knife bussiness.

Benchmade then dropped the BM300 to compete with this (flipper vs flipper) but there's was a detent-less smoldering heap of garbage

I took my g10 scale off, set it flat on a coarse DMT plate and went to town until it was1/2 the stock thickness. It’s perfect now!
