this question might seem dumb but how do you perform the boosts off of enemies to do a high jump?

It's a good question. It's referred to as a proxy - the most common form in this run is a dead body proxy, so I'll explain that one. There are certain objects in the game that Spyro can charge through, but not glide through. If you charge jump toward an object of this type, then press X while still holding Square as you enter the hitbox of the object, Spyro glides for one frame and then continues charging on the next frame. During the gliding frame, the game recognizes Spyro is inside of an object and pushes him out of it. The velocity of this push is preserved as a vector with magnitude and direction based on where you were in the hitbox when you pressed X. TL;DR (method stripped of explanation): Charge jump toward a proxyable object and press X while still holding Square as you enter its hitbox.

20:11 There's one thing i've learned in that half dead state. Never go into the whale's stomach by flying out of bounds after the egg has been collected. You can't press start or die in there. It's gonna have to be a console reset

@@neog8029 Bianca's Sunrise Spring text is slower as is the hot air balloon's descent at the end of the homeworld. Boundaries in Evening Lake are a little lower, which makes getting out of bounds faster.

That's just the music that plays on NTSC v1.0. They corrected it in subsequent releases.

Sure. Consider Sparx's color to be a number value (e.g. Yellow=3, Blue=2, Green=1, No Sparx=0). In this example, when Spyro takes damage that should induce a death, Sparx's number value is temporarily placed at -1. The game then interprets the value and Spyro dies. If you pause on the frame the value switches to -1 (also, the frame before the game interprets the value) and then exit the level or area, Spyro is placed in a "limbo" state we call zombie mode where the game recognizes that Spyro should have died, but can no longer move forward with the death process. There are a few effects from being in this state. Most notably, the game can't properly transition Spyro from swimming to not swimming or the other way around. When I exit Lost Fleet (19:54), Spyro is loaded back into Evening Lake underwater, so I retain that swimming state indefinitely or until I do something to remove zombie mode. TL;DR (method stripped of explanation): Pause on the frame you receive damage that would normally cause a death and then exit.

Thank you and sure. Area portals like the one that leads to Sorceress's Lair are, in many cases, larger than they should be and can be accessed in unintended ways and from unintended places. There's a small section of the portal for Sorceress's Lair that bleeds into the castle mountains. Although it's invisible, it works just like if I entered it the normal way. Entering it like I did allows me to ignore the 100 egg requirement that's meant to be in place.

There's a more in depth explanation of dead-body proxies in the pinned comment thread of this video, but to answer just your question about location, you generally should be centered on the surface of the hitbox as you enter. Press X the moment you enter the hitbox to proxy.

It's actually done on the NTSC version, but it's version 1.0, which is why the music is the way that it is. Most tricks work on both the European and American versions, but there are fundamental differences between the two that make some tricks easier/harder depending on which one you're playing.

The game has a global adaptive difficulty based around how many "hard eggs" you've collected before loading an area. In an Any% run, the only egg we've collected that is flagged to affect the value that determines difficulty is the one for defeating Buzz, so we're still on the easy difficulty when we enter Spike.

I miss the jump occasionally, but it's consistent enough (>80%) that I enter the level confident that I'll exit on about the same pace.

How bout Bentley the pirate level when u hit spyros tail in the acid to activate the swim in the air glitch when u exit the level after spyros final death? Doesn't that scare u?

In my memory, Spike has 3 phases where he has 3 lives, 9 in total but here he has 2 lives at each phase and he shoots with his ray 2 times in phase 1, 3 times in phase 2 and 4 times in phase 3 but it only fires 1, 2 and 3 times. It's a game bug?

Excellent question. This game has a global adaptive difficulty system in place that changes the fight based on which eggs I've collected during the run. Specific eggs were deemed "hard eggs" by the developers and collecting enough of those eggs results in the fight being as it was in your memory. Before Spike's Arena, I skip all but one of the "hard eggs" (Defeat Buzz is the only exception), so I get the easier version of the boss.

A minimum completion run doesn't require any gems, but still requires 19 eggs: 15 end of level eggs, 3 boss eggs, and 1 extra egg that's forced onto us in Sgt. Byrd's Base.

Genuinely curious, is there a reason not to skip the first Bianca cutscene? Does not triggering it impede on any progress? Or is preforming the skip so finicky it isn’t worth it/it wastes more time than it saves?

There's not actually a real and permanent Bianca skip. I know there are KZfaq videos out that claim there's one, but none of those are permanent skips. If you go into Sunny Villa without having spoken to Bianca, you're forced to speak to her on the way out. If you re-order the levels so that Sunny Villa is last, Bianca prevents the teleport to the balloon instead of the teleport being prioritized.

Yes and no. I play on version 1.0 of the NTSC release of the game. In this version, some of the tracks aren't correctly assigned to their levels.

I run using the PSN download on a PSTV since loads are faster than on the original disc. The PSN download version is NTSC v1.0. Aside from loads, the game is essentially identical (i.e. all tricks performed are possible on console).

@@jcthompson0005 only on the PS3 will the 3 Spyro games have slowdown. It's extremely annoying which is why I don't play them on PS3 anymore. The slow down occurs in all levels, especially in large open areas. The PSN downloads here in America are horrible on PS3. No problems on PSP or Vita.

Jordan Johnston they did it during production to save disk space. You aren’t supposed to be able to do pretty much anything the player did and certainly not abuse it in this way. Just goes to show the lengths speed runners will go to completely bust a game and I love it.

That was a nice speedrun however that wasn't realy the end of the game there is another bossfight

If you're referring to the Sorceress fight in the Super Bonus Round, because it is in the Super Bonus Round, which does not count towards completion, it is not required for an any% run, or even a 100% run.

That's a different category referred to as 117%. "Any%" just requires you to beat the game (in this case, that means to trigger the first ending).

@@cunningflop You're right that you can't with superfly. The powerup is removed as you cross an invisible trigger at the opening of the cave. Knowing this, I used a mechanic called a superfly jump to achieve the out of bounds. Essentially, with Spyro about level, I flap (with X), angle myself up (with down), and then charge (with square). If these inputs are timed correctly with an adequate original angle, the momentum from the flap directs the charge diagonally up. The invisible trigger at the opening of the cave removes superfly, not your charging momentum, so the superfly jump is completed without being influenced by the removal of the powerup. If you pause the video around 4:41 and slow it down, you'll see that I start the superfly jump right before my powerup is removed (I need superfly to begin the jump, but not to complete it).
