One of the most popular hashtags used in today’s social media platforms is #squadgoals, used typically as an inspirational term for what we want our own group or generation to accomplish or be like. Did you know that Jesus has squad goals for His followers? His plans for those who believe in Him and have become part of His church are too many to enumerate in one lesson, but we examine four squad goals in today’s message.
This teaching is from our series Hashtag with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

Holden Caulfield, the protagonist in "The Catcher in the Rye," was asked by some nuns how he felt about Jesus. Holden said, "I like Jesus but I can't stand the disciples." One nun said in response, "But Jesus picked the disciples." To which Holden replied, "Yeah, but He picked them at random." Love it!

Hello @Zakisto Drino, My name is Taylor Bronisz, and I serve as an assistant pastor here at Calvary Church. On behalf of Pastor Skip, I’d like to thank you for reaching out with your question! In regards to Luke 6:12, while it can seem confusing on the surface as to why Jesus (who is God) is recorded as praying to God, the answer is thankfully pretty simple. In this account, as well as other accounts throughout the Gospels, Jesus goes off to a secluded place to pray to God. We know that Jesus Himself is God in human flesh, he is the “God-Man” as some theologians refer to Him. So if He is God, who is praying to? The answer is that Jesus, who is God the Son, is praying to God the Father. We believe that there is only one God (Deut. 6:4). However we also believe that within the nature of the one, true, and eternal God, that there are three separate and distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is what Christians for the last two millennia have referred to as the “Trinity.” We believe that there is only one God, but within the one Divine Being, there are three separate co-equal, co-eternal Persons. Jesus is just as much God as is the Father and the Spirit, however Jesus is also fully human. While He was on the earth, He often prayed to God the Father and encouraged us to do the same. A perfect example of the Trinity as both one God and three Persons can be found in the account of Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 3:16-17. Jesus is present in the river, the Father speaks to Jesus from above, and the Spirit descends on Jesus in the form of a dove. If you would like to read further, here are some other examples of Jesus praying to the Father: Matt. 6:9; Matt. 11:25-26; Matt. 26:39; Mark 1:35; Luke 23:46; John 11:41-42; John 17:1-26. I hope this answer proves to be helpful, and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out! God bless, Pastor Taylor Bronisz
