Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development.
I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2024 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered "feature complete" which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion.
The are no dates for Squadron 42's Release Yet BUT it is now Feature Complete.
I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF). How is it feature complete with things like master modes just being started? You would think that would involve alot of balancing

@TheitaniofRome master modes in SQ42 is different from the PU. Implementing the system into a multi-player environment takes alot more work than just making it work for a single player experience. Plus, As far systems go, I see the incoming MM as a base level for the system that will be interated and built upon as they implement further systems(e.g. engineering etc) but just my .02

Don't expect the writing to be top notch, it will be a cheesy 80s b-movie, which isn't bad per se. The story presentation and world building will be stellar, no doubts about that.

The Overdrive Initiative event is pretty dope. Happy I finally got the Mk 2. looking forward to getting that A varient in the next few weeks. Only complaint is that it takes FOREVER for the missions to populate. I waited for almost and hour for 5/5 to show up in my mission list.

I am so pumped for 42 waited a long time and I think it is worth it.I was going to rid of my mustang game package but didn't just because it had my 42 game in it and then would have to wait for it to be sold again so I kept it to be on the safe side lol,I don't know what I want from 42 except it's release I am sure after all this time it will be great and as far as delivery time frame, I would say it's probably going to be our Christmas present or CitizenCon.

My guess would be an announcement this year and a release next year. We'll know better by the end of Q2. If there is no announcement or some sort of ad campaign started by then, I strongly doubt we'll see it launched by the end of the year.

Definitely looking forward to Squadron, but more so to SC. I wonder at the replayability of Squadron, whereas SC is something new every time you play. In any case, I am pleased to see some integration between Squadron and SC (e.g., unlocking things in SC via Squadron completion).

Looking at the f7c it seems like a high polished ahip, loads of details all over, conopy magnification effect, winglets, engine / thruster animation looks high deff..seems like it has been pulled straight from sq42!

My guess is February. They probably want a Holiday release, but might not quite be ready. January is an unpopular release window for games so it'll be pushed to February

I still wager they announce a date at CitizenCon, and that date is the last day of IAE in November. They'll begin by dropping a teaser trailer in August, assuming the PU alpha 4.0 patch is working reasonably well at that time (because they don't want to kick off the campaign in association with a bad state for PU). After CitizenCon, an intense month-long ad campaign will build hype pre-release with a couple of trailers and a behind-the-scenes, more ads up to xmas, and then trailing off in the new year.

They'll definitely start to promote it this Citcon with a heavy focus on Squadron, trailers at every big gaming event like Game Awards, Summer Games Fest and Gamescom with a release set around Q3/Q4 2025

Squadron42 is basically the game Star Citizen was supposed to be, but with support for a few friends to drop in/out for PvP/CO-OP as desired. I'm almost certain they'll give a release date for S42 at the CON this year and I'd guess its going to be towards the end of 2025. SC is going to have to be as bug free as possible at launch. I hope the release a sigle player version of arena commander that use S42 instead of SC to run (if that makes sense), I think it would be a good way to test some of the stuff in S42, it being client side instead of server side.

Too late this year might be dangerous, as it'd see the same thing that happened to games like Enshrouded - good game, but absolutely overshadowed. Incase of enshrounded even worse as it was mushed right between palworld and helldivers 2 a 2025 release just runs the risk of being totally cockblocked by GTA6 for sure, unless it gets pushed back as most R* games do

I honestly just want my Elite Series 2 controller to finally work properly. The interaction button never works for the controller. Squadron 42 looks absolutely phenomenal. Can't wait to jump into 3.23.

Looking forward to both games. The single-player narrative will really let me dive into the lore and the MMO looks to be the ultimate sandbox for me and my friends to adventure in. Chris Roberts is a stickler for detail and smooth gameplay. It’s unlikely he would release Squadron42 in a less than stellar state. Which is why I doubt there will be any Squadron42 announcement this year. Maybe end of 2025. But it would be nice if I’m wrong.
