Nice video, I love watching old equipment work. We have a 1959 John Deere 14t that we have to use every year because it does a great job and only cost me $225.00.

I recently sold my IH 47 baler, and VERY much look forward to something a little more reliable! When it tied good, it was good, but when it was moody, life was tough!I hope the NH has been treating you good!

I found out who sold crappy twine real fast with our 46. The new baler has been wonderful. I still need a new home for the 46.

This is exactly how my dad and I baled hay back in the day. He would be up front in the Farmall 450 while we stood on the trailer in the back stacking. I would love to give it a try again one of these days.

Awesome video! I really appreciate your sense of humour and the incidents of "fun" we small farmers experience when using "antique" equipment! Keep it up!

I turn left more bailing myself, easier to get the baler under trees, etc than the tractor.

Never saw or heard of a white demonstrator piece of equipment, just the gold tractors. We had a regular 46 and the thrower suckered. It would burn the strings off unless you kept the hay moving through it. Slippery straw was awful baling with it. But that thing would eat hay like no other I've seen! !

In the north of England in the sixties, we had a baler painted yellow and named a Bamford BL 48, the B stood for Bamford a very well know British manufacturer of farm machinery. the L stood for Long of the USA..

Nice video . I had a ih 46 baler but unfortunately the knotters were worn out and I was unable to find the parts so I just parted the machine out

Problem is there are two types of knotters. Deering and McCormick. Everybody else used the Deering style knotter, while IH used the McCormick style knotter which is more complex and finicky. They even went so far as to call it the "all twine knotter" but in reality they don't work worth a crap with anything but sisal twine.

I have a 2910 and just bought a model 46 baler which I found your channel looking for videos on the baler I have all the books on the baler any advice on it though? I also think it's crazy your halfway across the country with the same tractor and baler as me

That's wild alright! You've a better start than we had; we don't have any books. Keep it well greased, and use the best twine you can find; something with consistent thickness. I have never tried plastic twine. Always bale dry hay!! If its wet or dewy, you'll struggle keeping the bales together. We run ours about 1600 rpm on the fords. Don't get in a big hurry, but its a comfortable pace for stacking. I have baled 150 bales in 45 minutes in a very thick field. With the fords, I bale mostly in first or second gear. The pickup is narrow, so keep the windrows tight. For second cut grass, rake as big as a windrow as possible. The tine spacing on the pick up is wide, so the fine leaves can fall through. After a bouncy road travel, check to see if the needles are still fully retracted. I have broken the shear bolt at the flywheel because the needles came unlatched from a rough ride, or a long time of running empty and no bales being tied.

It has spent quite a bit of its life in the corner of a barn. My guess is that some brand new New Holland balers see more hay in one year than this machine has seen its whole life.

IH did it with the letter series tractors. I wouldn't try a thower on it because I'm having trouble finding good twine; many bales would bust on landing. I still haven't tried any plastic through it.
