If BSB is remembered at all, over a quarter of a century on, it's as a cautionary tale of one of the biggest disasters in British business history. But it could, and perhaps should, have been the shape of British television, if it wasn't for their own incompetence, their own rotten luck, and a certain Australian entrepreneur bypassing all the rules. That was the dream of British Satellite Broadcasting. Here's how it failed.
Part five: Out of Square. After failing miserably to launch in 1989, BSB picks itself up and limps toward the nineties instead. Including the sixth BSB channel!

@@GeoNeilUK Wrong chip sadly - the super DMAC chip shown in this episode is the DMA controller for the Amiga 3000. Actual DMAC decoder chips were made by ITT.

The power station idents sounds kinda similar to Perry The Platypus theme from Phineas and Ferb…I never realized till now!

Bar the Power station, the other channel idents look surprisingly contemporary, even today. Would love a HQ version of the Galaxy one - the visuals and score are beautiful.

Technically good but a limited channel choice, poorly equipped receivers with inadequate socket provision to make the most of the excellent sound / vision possibilities with just a lowly SCART socket and RF aerial connection, and not the promised 2xS-Video connectors / stereo output, a digital coaxial and optical audio connector and second SCART connector for a VHS video recorder which would make the receivers flexible and able to make the most of the excellent sound and vision properties of D-MAC.

I really really wanted to like this series, but had to stop watching. I tried again with this episode, but struggled. My biggest issue is that it’s positioned as a carefully researched doc, but it feels like 20+ minutes of over indulgent sarcasm and gaslighting. What’s there might be an accurate and reliable, but for those of us who are trying to watch without a great deal of knowledge of BSB, I can’t tell which is which. There’s just way too much of your opinion sold as facts. Did you work for BSB? Their marketing or PR agency? Perhaps as a customer service representative? Because unless you did, I can’t understand why you’d think viewers would think you were qualified to give so many ‘opinions’ from a hobbyist. Sorry!

What gives you the right to shit on someone who's done so much hard work on bringing this series of videos out - having done months of research and painstakingly editing it all together? What are you, a Sky employee or something? What makes you entitled to reply with your own wrong opinions in this fashion? Not sorry!

I feel the complete opposite, this is probably his Magnum Opus. It's well researched, well written, and well put together, with little to no personal opinion put in. I regularly come back to watch this maybe twice or 3 times a year, it's that good IMO.
