It’s all about square body GM trucks, because The Stunt Double is back in the shop. First, we take a look back at the this awesome ‘86 Chevy 4x4 Silverado long bed build that pays tribute to the legendary Fall Guy TV truck. From its beginnings as a well-worn farm truck, you’ll see it get an upgraded suspension, interior, drivetrain, as we make it better than it was before... better... stronger... faster... wait, that was a DIFFERENT Lee Majors TV show! After that, we walk you through the paint job and show how it is similar to the Fall Guy truck, only different.... because It’s the Stunt Double!!! No hocus pocus... no movie magic... just a tough truck being built to handle the toughest stunts... only on GEARZ!

We miss the older shows. There was some drama, but the cast weren’t hopping from one actor to another. Trannys and homosexuality wasn’t shoved down everyone’s throats ( pun intended). People weren’t having affairs with each other, etc. Now it’s all about Soap Opera’s. I even liked The Dukes of Hazard. That Daisy Duke had a great body, but her face would stop would stop a 9 day clock 😁

I had a 1978 3/4 Ton Camper Special. It was Yellow and White with Tan interior. It was so rusted that I had to buy a rubber floor mats and turn it sideways so that if I hit a puddle, my feet wouldn’t get wet. ( I’m a WA state native and it rains a LOT where I was living on a small island in Puget Sound). That old truck never let me down. The previous owner had just put in a new transmission. I needed a truck for Heavy Duty work. My dad heated his house mainly with his wood stove and I often had a fire going in my fireplace as well. There were 2 “Island Trucks”. If you needed a light duty truck then there was an old Toyota pickup. The ignition switch was so worn that if you wanted to start it, you’d put a screwdriver in and use it as the key. If you needed a heavy duty truck, then mine was it. I’d leave the keys in the ignition. The rule was that if you borrowed either one of the trucks, it had to remain on the island and you had to replace the gas that you used. Sometimes I’d get into my car to catch the ferry and go to work and my truck would be gone. Usually the people would leave me or the owner of the Toyota a note on their / my door, but if they didn’t they would let you know while on the ferry. A few days later the trucks would be parked in the area designated for it. The man who bought it from me had a tree cutting company and he had a 1 Ton that needed a transmission, so he paid me $900 for my truck but only needed the transmission. My 2nd Square body was a 1985 with a GUTLESS 305 V8. That thing was constantly breaking down, so I got rid of it and went back to Ford. Earlier this year I sold my 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4WD. Even though it was 13 years old, it had only 36K miles. We wanted to get rid of my 19 Forester Touring LEMON 🍋. It was 5 years old but had only 15K miles, because it was in the repair shop more often than it was out. The last 12 weeks of owning it, it was in for repairs for 9 of the 12 weeks. And we decided to sell our Ranger so we could buy a new Tacoma TRD. My wife’s Outback is 5 years old but has only 35K miles. I ended up buying a new 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. it’s basically a Limited Edition with the TRD Off Road pkg. Last year I heard that the Tacoma was going to be redesigned so we were going to wait until 26-28, (to get the bugs worked out of the new redesigned version). Then I found out that Toyota was dropping the V6 and going to the Turbo 4cyl. I DIDNT want to Turbo and it was too late to order a new one. I was looking in Wa, ID, MT and Oregon. I happened to find mine at our local Toyota dealership. 45 minutes away. I knew what I wanted. I was looking for a White, Barcelona Red or a Lunar Rock. Mine happened to be White. It’s a TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. Because I bought it on 2/29/24, the dealership was wanting to sell it. They removed their $1,995 dealership markup, added running boards and a Tri-Fold tonneau cover. The MSRP was $51,848. We bought it for $48K. I’m glad that I found Exactly what I was looking for. Because I drive only 6-7K miles per year and at my age, our (my) Tacoma will be the last pickup that I’ll ever need to own.

In 2019 I bought a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab, 4WD. It had only 20K miles on it and I bought it for $3K under Kelly Blue Book (KBB). It was Silver with gray and black interior. Silver, charcoal grey, grey and black are horrible colors that became popular in 1990. I decided to have it 2 toned in metallic Red and Red pinstripes. Because the interior was the 1990 old and outdated colors, I decided to have it reupholstered in Red with black trim. The previous owner (he was 62 years old in 2011), had custom wheels , running boards and a Flowmaster exhaust. We needed a small pickup for light duty work around our property. Everyone complimented me on how great the truck looked. I added adjustable rear air shocks (to haul heavier loads), a LineX spray in bed liner and a roll up tonneau cover. Before adding a K&N cold air intake I was getting 19mpg on the highway with the cruise set on 75mph. After adding the K&N I consistently got 23mpg. We had that pickup until 2/24 and it had only 36K miles on it when I sold it to a man who bought it for his 19 year old son. Because used vehicles have increased so much and all of the mods that I had done, I was able to get top dollar. In 2019 i bought it for $18K. In 24 I sold it for $25K. So in 5 years of owning it and putting on 16K miles, I made $7K profit. On 2/29/24 I bought a new Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. it’s basically a Limited Edition with the TRD Off Road pkg. It’s White and had Black factory Leather interior. I contacted Katzkin and they made me Barcelona Red Leather seat covers and after they removed the black leather seat covers they installed the red leather seat covers with black trim and stitching. (I sold my black leather seat covers to a friend who has a 23 TRD with grey cloth seat covers). A week after the new Barcelona Red Leather seats and door trim were installed, I took my Tacoma to the body shop and had them 2 tone my Toyota in Barcelona Ted metallic, following the body lines of the exterior. I also added Bronze wheels, as well as having it pinstriped in Barcelona Red and Tan/Gold. Yesterday (5/11/24), I installed an oil less, washable cold air intake. My TRD sounds Deep and Throaty under acceleration, but is whisper quiet at cruising speeds. My TRD came with the TRD Performance exhaust system. Later this year I’ll be installing a Flowmaster FlowFX dual exhaust system. Next Saturday, (5/18/24), I’m having the Overland Torque Tune (OTT) installed. The OTT stops the 3rd generation Tacoma from “hunting” for gears in the transmission, while adding 25 horsepower and 25 lb ft of torque. The OTT also causes the full torque to start at 2K RPM instead of the factory 3,600 RPM. With the combination of the cold air intake and the OTT, my 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6 will have 318 horsepower, up from the 278 horsepower. The OTT also Increases the gas mileage by 1-2 more mpg. I have power running boards on order. The power running boards drop down and out when one of the doors are opened and close up against the rocker panels. I’ll be selling the Performance TRD exhaust system as well as the factory running boards. All TRDs come with a front skid plate. I have a Millercat skid plate on order that covers 2 of the catalytic converters along with the transmission. I’ve also ordered a skid plate for the rear differential and fuel tank. After returning from our property in MT I’m having a 1” lift installed with an ADD A LEAF on the rear, (as the 3rd generation Tacoma rear leaf springs tend to sag), so the ADD A LEAF, will not only cause the rear of my Tacoma to be lifted an additional 1” - 1.5”. They will also be adding a leveling kit. I only drive 6-7K miles per year and at my age, I’ll never need to buy another pickup again. I’m quite sure that my wife will be using the Tacoma to plow our driveway and our road to the county road during the winter months, as we get 5-7 feet of snow yearly. I have Mahogany (Reddish brown) real wood trim pieces on order for the interior of my Tacoma. So yeah, even though I’m older , I enjoy making my vehicles a 1 of a kind and I Love doing simple modifications to my engine’s to give me more horsepower and torque. I’m already looking forward to impromptu racing other vehicles once I’m finished with modifying my 23 TRD. Thanks for taking time to read along. Enjoy your day and I’d enjoy feedback from others and the modifications that you’ve made to your vehicle as well. Cheers ! Doc

Love the show Staci been watching since you were on cable. I have a 1991 K5 (V10) blazer that I will live in before I'll sell it. Been sitting on the south side of my house for years since it's not my daily driver anymore and the paint is fading and clear coat peeling like there is no tomorrow. I put a 14 bolt FF rear and a 10 bolt front with 8 lug outers. plans to do a 4l80e trans and repaint but that is last of course. It is blue with white in the middle, found out not too many with this paint scheme. Keep it up, love the square body's and plan to buy more while I still can regret selling my 78 camper special. May even sell my jeep Cherokee for one but I discovered I love my Cherokee also discovered I'm a jeep guy since I have a dead TJ 4 banger in my garage with plans for a GM LS motor as soon as I can afford it.

@@Rangerman69420 there are many who would disagree with your reliability statement there. Check out Dynacorn classic bodies... the car world is trending towards making new old cars; you'll never see a brand new or car because of the IIHS and the EPA... plus you'd never buy it anyway. Something like the new bronco is the closest we'll get to a new old car.

If you're problem with the column, being a tilt column that it is loose all you need to do is take it apart until you get to the 3 (or 4 cant remember) bolts that hold the tilt mechanism together and re tighten them with locktite and never have that problem again. Did that to my K5 years ago and never had a problem since, also helped out a buddy's G20 conversion van who bought another column but we did this before installing the other column and it worked. Videos are on youtube, need to buy a special tool to get a couple pins out for the tilt mechanism, got mine from napa. Hope this helps!

Sequential multiport injection, one injector per cylinder. TBI, two injectors kinda looks like a carburetor. Holly makes a 4 injector version. A carburetor these are three different animals. TBI, put a spacer under it, chip or re-flash the ecm/pcm, different cam, different ratio rockers, headers with dual exhaust, upgrade the ignition system. Not terribly hard.

TV & Movie cars are sometimes painted some odd shade of color in real life to appear "correct" on camera the rockford files firebird was painted a custom gold because the GM gold had a green tint on film, the general lee was painted a custom orange because the chrysler orange looked too brown, and there are other examples as well, I would guess the truck looks good in real life but with a tv budget for filming it picked up a green cast.
