There is nothing you can do against it. Even if you see that he is going to do it. Stunning ....

This is one of my favorite trick shots since it's a lot easier to learn/practice (to an intermediate level) than fancier moves like cross court volley drop-nicks. Getting it to nick is where Willstrop shows mastery, but just getting the light short touch off of the back wall bounce is a really fun thing to practice and get the hang of rather quickly even for beginners. I'd actually argue it's easier to learn the touch for getting the right length on this shot than it is to get a boast from the same retrieval spot. If gyms ever re-open maybe we can all practice it!

I agree with you. Boasts have that element to them that I still struggle with the correct angle. Willstrop waits until the ball is very low and bit far from the front before he hits with a medium force.

@@JimCampbell777 Boasts are so quirky. I swear some of the most out of shape, worst guys at the local courts can hit AMAZING boasts 90% of the time...and nothing else, no lobs, no drives, no drops, and not even a return to T, they just hit a running boast and keep going. I'm not sure I'll ever understand it. I can hit a mean boast on the forehand, but if it's on the backhand...it'll probably be loose. That's why that Willstrop drop is so handy.

You’ve got to have a better name for that shot then Long Drop. When you go camping in the bush a long drop is something else!

Greetings, Tamura Yoshiki, it is an abbreviation of the initials of the commentator's name, Paul Johnson, PJ.

It may be obvious to you watching from your screen, but in the moment, it may not be quite as obvious.

It is obvious, but check out 0:24 the forehand there. He starts to slow down his swing and prep for the short drop there but switches to a full power drive. Sometimes he pretends he's going to drop then hits a drive, other times he just drives, then other times he drops. I think if he didn't bother mixing in fake-drop-drives with real-drops it wouldn't work so well. He's got some subtle head games going on.

@@conanthanoz19 so it's not obvious because he can easily disguise the drop shot as a full drive. The player can't predict what willstrop will play.
