I’d say the most common error among club players is not getting the ball deep enough, specifically by not hitting their backhands high enough on the front wall. Watch how high the pros hit their backhands, and compare that with club players. With cross courts the danger is going to the opponent’s forehand, where, for club players the biggest error is the choice of shot. Pro’s backhands and forehands are relatively equal in quality, but club players typically have much better forehands, so backhand cross courts should be played far less frequently than they typically are. Cross courts you want to make just out of reach of your opponent, so as narrow as possible to meet that constraint, to get it deep to the back.
