This is what true Olympic Back Squat is all about. Very close grip(bar high on traps), so chest is high, spine is straight, so torso is rigid and solid, nothing gives, back squat movement is upright, up and down. Awesome! Reflects his snatch and clean&jerk.

His heels come off the ground in a few of them. Is that necessarily bad? It's something I haven't been able to prevent regardless of foot stance and stretching.
@alex6629227
@alex6629227 6 жыл бұрын
Work on your balance and stay tight in every portion of the lift. In my opinion it's not about foot stance and flexibility if you're not horribly stiff. Think of keeping the bar over the middle of your foot and make sure it's travelling in straight line.
@avocado6623
@avocado6623 6 жыл бұрын
ya it means the weight is shifting to the toes, and the sheering force will go directly on your knees. You want all 3 points of your foot to be in contact with the floor, that's how you generate the most power. It's not catastrophic in a bubble, but if that's how you're squatting every day even under moderate intensity you can expect over use injuries in your future. It is true your bar path could be jacked up like the above guy said. But if you're that inexperienced then you need to drop the weight and perfect your technique and make sure your core and back are tight. If it's not the technique, then I imagine it would just be your leverages lending itself to a lack of mobility. I don't know what your body structure is like(leg length:torso length ratio). But most people generally need a heeled shoe to squat high bar or front squat. And stretching is sort of a subjective thing. Lots of people think they are stretching their ham strings for example, but really they're just stretching their lower back. It never hurts to work on mobility. And when mobility is a factor, the thing that hinders your squat is dorsiflexion and hamstrings. There's lots of good info out there, check around youtube for those things. Shoes, hamgstring/dorsiflexion, and technique. That's your homework!

The only thing I don’t understand, and I’ve noticed this in multiple Olympic lifters. Is that their knees come much further forward than their toes, where as I’ve always been told to keep my toes and knees inline. Also his heel slightly comes of the floor at the bottom of the movement where as I’ve always been told to push through the heels not the toes? Can anyone explain??
@jeanb7158
@jeanb7158 6 жыл бұрын
Also I just want to add that you do not want to keep your knees above your toes, doing so would make anyone fall backwards at the low point of a squat. It's important to work on good ankle mobility so your knees can go forward much more while still having your heels on the ground.
@ryanturner8577
@ryanturner8577 6 жыл бұрын
William Burton All aboit2 bar position. Olympic lifters use a high bar squat. This allows you to drop down more vs. Back. Also you can utilize the bounce from the hole. Much smoother squat when your feet are closer in vs. A wide low bar squat. Remember, it's all about maintaining a straight bar path, so forward knee travel is almost necessary when doing an olymoic style high bar squat.
