Wow just saw them on a TV interview from 2022. They have grown and changed before our eyes. Who cannot feel affection for these guys?

Interesting you say this. I think Difford ‘nicked’ his moves from Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces 😊 Tilbrook moves almost exactly like Buddy Holly

Stumbled up on this, and it instantly became my favorite Squeeze clip! Glenn with his very British accent so charming. And finishing with I've Returned! One of my favorites of all time. Thanks for sharing Steve Bertam!

Wow. Love this song. Thought it was fairly obscure. Had no idea they played it on American Bandstand of all places.
@TheWillx23 жыл бұрын
They didnt play it on American Bandstand. That's the original recording that they are "performing" to. I hated the Lip Sync craze of the 80s. It still happens some today, but not nearly as much.

Good song, but king of a weird choice to highlight on AB. I suppose "Black Coffee In Bed" was too long for their allotted time n the show.
@caseyjay80973 жыл бұрын
I was there. They had to wake John. He was asleep in the bus, nursing a hangover. It's also when I learned they didn't play the instruments onstage, except for Gilson. Still, one of the highlights of my youth.

I can't say enough about Squeeze, in all its incarnations. A magical group that I got to see in NYC way back in the late 70's-early 80's. Some of the best shows I've ever seen.

It’s impossible to explain how powerful this band is live. I saw them I think in 86 and they set the stage on fire ! When Jools Holland on keyboards and Keith Wilkerson on base we’re with them they were truly unbelievable. Definitely my favorite band in the 80s and beyond.

Funny how they talk so much in the interview about writing the next album and touring again in the fall. They broke up the band two months after this. I had only just discovered them earlier that year and was devastated that my new favorite band was already on the rocks. Luckily, the breakup was short-lived. Got to see them live three times over the years, as recently as last month.

How does any human (not a computer, not a robot, and not God) write a melody and lyrics like that; and by the same token, how many men on this planet could sing that vocal? Maybe Plant, 1970-72. Not sure John Waite could even do it. Those fortunate few in the audience got 3 of the greatest minutes of their lives listening to I've Returned.

In the UK in the 70s-2000's we had a programme called Top of the Pops and 95% of the acts mimed. The acts changed every 3 or so minutes in a 30 minute programme so it would have been a logistical nightmare to do anything live, although the occasional act did. Squeeze would have been used to this format before they played in the US.
