Gates Wildlife Control

2 жыл бұрын

One day during a zoom work meeting our customer spotted a mother squirrel climbing the brick wall of his house with nesting material. A few minutes later, he saw her return with a baby in her mouth, which happened 4 more times. This mother must have had to leave her old nesting site in a rush and quickly built a nest to relocate her babies to. The customer had originally thought there were 6 babies but there ended up only being 5.
Watch to see how we accessed the babies and successfully reunited them with their mother.
Please give this video of thumbs up if you enjoyed it!
We GET THEM OUT and KEEP THEM OUT.

I know I have birds or squirrels or something that nest in the soffet outside and above my bedroom window, I've heard them for years. I just leave them be, they're outside and they're not bothering me. When we had raccoons in the dining room wall, we did have a wildlife company remove them. There were 2 babies and by the time I called somebody, they were old enough to just follow mom to a new location. They were the cutest things ever! The joys of living in a 100 year old house with lots of little critters in the area.

Houses should be designed in a way that would allow critters to safely use some areas for their own nesting, while ensuring that they cannot access any critical structures or wiring. There would be plenty of warm and sheltered space on the walls, under the roof and below the house, too. I'm certain this could be done if there's will to do it.

I keep waiting on the edge of my seat for one of those tiny baby to have a heart attack. They shake so much. It's so sad that we constantly uproot these little critters from their home, and sometimes their moms because we keep paving "paradise". I see their mom going crazy as she watches her babies being taken away w/o knowing if she'll ever see them again. My heart breaks when they have to tear the babies away from the nest! Thank God, there are people who really care and do whatever they must to get them to safety. I'm not sure that I could do what this team does. Thank you and keep up the great work that you do.

Hi. This is my first time watching and I am very thankful that everything is fine. My question is are you sure there wasn't six babies. I noticed that she came back 6 times and started getting frantic when she couldn't find it before the video ended. Did you make sure there were only 5. I hope you went back and check again for her. I know to some this request sounds stupid but to an animal lover of all kinds, it's very important. GOD BLESS

Just fyi..squirrels CAN be trained to only chew on certain things and not damage things in the House. I was known in my hometown as the “squirrel lady” from the time I was a teen, (this was in North Florida, right on the Georgia border with LOTS of huge Live Oaks..and Pecan trees. AKA Squirrel heaven. Sammy came to me when I was 15, working at a nearby Vet, when he was MAYBE 3 weeks. It’s a long story, but Sammy didn’t really leave-my parents had 2 centennial Live Oaks in their back yard, usually full of squirrel nests. The Vet feared Sammy may have incurred a head injury because as he grew a bit older, he’d go in circles & Bob his head. Uhhmm, no. He was spoiled rotten, became my class Mascot even coming to my graduation. Yes, Sammy ran and played with squirrels out back, stole my teacup chihuahua’s food and took it to his friends (Chico was also a rescue, dumped outside the animal hospital long before he should have weaned. Back in 1970, what we now call teacups, we’re the runt of the litter and breeders didn’t want them. Sammy treated Chico like his little brother..most of the time they took care of each other, played together..but Chico got tired of his missing food..so he started hiding Sammy’s nuts that my mother, who swore she hated “these danged RATS in my house”..but we’d catch her sleeping on the couch with Sammy and Chico on top of her). Even longer story short, at 16 I was accepted into a vet tech summer program at the Vet I worked fors university. A year later I co-founded a wildlife rescue, rehab and release organization and became certified by the state to keep mostly any type of mammal baby or injured adults and eventually had a farm, purchased from a classmates family..and that family now runs the organization. It was the main thing I hated about leaving my hometown, but I went into human medicine too. I was a paramedic before returning to school to finish my BS and went to medical school out of state. While in Med school, I volunteered at a nearby rescue/rehab/retirement “zoo” and we had everything from local wildlife, rescued exotics, zoo and circus retirees. We boarded our 2 horses there in return for work. PLUS, it was heaven for me and my 3 kids..my husband wasn’t a big fan of the tiger and bear cub in a playpen in our living room, Skippy the kangaroo hanging from our door if I wasn’t wearing him..and occasionally Bubu swinging from our chandeliers. (Spider monkey). Unfortunately life happened and I couldn’t maintain the two lives, then came my accident and early retirement. I would LOVE to take in babies again; but I can’t where I am right now. My daughters are helping me move next month and my eldest said a few weeks ago, “mama needs more Sammy & Sissy’s!” The first “Sissy” was about 4 years after leaving home, I was brought a fairly young, MAYBE 2 month old who had been in a fight, probably with a cat. Sissy’s back leg was seriously infected, I could reach any of my Vet friends..so I amputated the back leg and gave her antibiotics till Monday. Sissy recovered, like Sammy was spoiled rotten and one of my most treasured photos is my eldest as a newborn and Sissy, cuddled together in the bassinet. Sissy was with us another 4 years, until she just disappeared one day and didn’t come back..just as Sammy had done at about 41/2 years. While I fully believe in nurse, wean, release..every now and then there’s a critter who attaches to you and makes it clear, they aren’t leaving. My mom moved into a retirement village a few years ago, at 94 after my Dad passed, she understandably wanted a smaller place..but in her new little cottage, there’s lots of trees..and squirrels. She asked my nephew to buy her a sombrero (what both Chico and Sammy chose to sleep in), and she put that hat just outside her porch under an awning, with an old soft hand towel inside and lots of cracked pecans. She watches all her “dang rats”, calls them rat, Sammy or Sissy and is happy as can be. Maybe one day I can do the same. PS as I said, I don’t advocate keeping wild critters as pets, there’s LOTS of desperate kittens, puppies, sometimes even other critters, at your local shelter that need your love. But if you DO find a baby and want to help it; please ask local vets or someone in wildlife care A. If it’s even legal in your area and B. Exactly what you need and how to do it. Having to feed a baby every 2 hours around the clock isn’t for everyone. Nor is having to release it back after you’ve become attached. Know what you’re getting into. And just because my squirrels were litter box trained, came when called, followed MOST commands (don’t expect them to just drop the toilet paper..if they got it, it’s THEIRS and they WILL fight for it!), doesn’t mean yours will. We also gave them boards and nuts to keep their teeth healthy. But..my kids, pretty much anyone who knows you would tell you I’ve never had a “normal” critter, and I’ve had a LOT. That dear Vet who has known me since I was 13, begging to volunteer..I STILL occasionally call her and her me. Todays conversations though are about my Kitty_Leela AKA Dr Leela (she saved my life last year and became a local celebrity). My best friend thinks she’s an alien spy. She loves Brussel sprouts, Pak Choy cabbage, and Chinese hot sauce. Her best friends? Our wintering field mice and spring/summer chipmunks who come in to visit, play, and of course eat. My Vet friend calls..actually, almost anyone who calls, first thing they ask is “how’s Leela? Is she up for a FaceTime?” A friend of my late Son sent her her own tablet a few years ago. She ONLY sleeps on her Turkish Towels, lies back on the wedge pillow she stole from me, pulls up her blanket and demands her music videos. Ok, so maybe it’s not my critters who aren’t normal…🤷🏼‍♀️😁😸. Keep up the great work! I LOVE seeing how you all are with the critters! And even Dr Leela watched the raccoons and squirrels with me this morning! Heading to Buffalo from here in the Poconos next month. My daughter says there’s squirrels everywhere!

Dear sir, you were most competent and kind. However, seeing as how July 2022 has yet to arrive, out of curiosity, I'm wondering in which year this intervention and video, in fact, took place. Blessings, always.

It's Canada. They use day/month/year whereas US we do month/day/year. So it read 7 day/4 month/2022, April 7th 2022. 😊

I can’t remember ever seeing a black squirrel (Minnesota); are they pretty common up there?

They are really common up here. I see more black squirrels than the grey ones usually.

i might have missed it , by walking away for a second , but how do you know there is not one left behind that wall ? she seems 2 be searching for more at the end, i also wonder if they know exactly how many kids they have .

Squirrels will also climb into your engine and chew wires. I had to pay $215 to replace some engine wires because of that.

In my mind I can't understand why the inhabitant don't let squirrels be there until they leave the nest and the seal it up?!? It can't be so big problem to have them i a balcony outside wall. But I'm an animal friend with empathy.

@@JustTyra21 I heard it too, but in a 2x4" wall standing free on a balcony outdoors it can't be so much damage for this short time. Then clean it off probably from plenty of years use and seal it later. Have a nice Easter!

Even if you seal it they will continue to get in and nest. They sometimes relocate within the home though you didn't even disturb the first nest. As he said they chew the wires which I have witnessed in my home. I wasn't overly concerned until I found out about a man who was killed because a squirrel chewed wiring which caused a fire. Luckily his wife survived. Relocation is best. The squirrel family lives and so does the home owners.

@@nawtmail Under this time they are nesting you have a lot of time to "intruding proof" rest of the property. Electrical hazards by chewing are a real problem and also are done by a lot of smaller animals with growing teeths as rodents and home bunnies (or kids). [I'm working at Fire Dep't also with Fire Prevention and have also a farm. :] Have a nice one, c mack!
