Question, did the squirl come back to ride it again? I once saw a squirl playing with a springy fallen branch. It'd run to the end, the branch would dip down under its weight then the branch would fling it into the air. It did a somersault or two, land on the ground, then run back up the branch and do it again. There was no insentive for the squirl to run up the branch other than pure enjoyment of the ride.

Would love to see how a sugar glider would react? We have a neighborhood here in Pittsburgh, PA called Squirrel Hill. I had read that when early settlers were moving into the area it was over-run with squirrels and they had to do battle with them to get the population down. Your contraption would have come in handy.

I don't live in squirrel country so l'm missing out on the fun. I want to make a weight operated release but with a (silent) delay mechanism that releases the catapult. Maybe a clockwork mechanism that is geared down to very slow RPM and has a slow turning lever that trips the release mechanism (sound insulated). Automatic release and after reloading just kick back and relax and wait for the next flying squirrel. You won't have to worry about the constant attention any more, waiting just the right moment to release it.
