I know exactly what Peter means when he said that some art supply shops are intimidating, that is so true. I went in one particular independent shop and the POSCA pens were actually locked away. A member of staff had to stand and watch me pick a couple of the pens out, then opened the cabinet to take out the pens for me. One colour I ended up with was a boring brown because I felt I needed to hurry up. I hate being rushed! I've not been in the shop since. If I owned a little art supplies store I would encourage people to come in to try them out. If they didn't buy anything it wouldn't bother me..but anyway, that would never happen because they are sooo addictive!😀

The thing with Peter Draws at least in my eyes is that Art can be anything, he just put white and Orange paint on a paoer and created a masterpiece, art is so subjective to the mind of what we percept from someones creation so this is art

Just a tip for people who want to oil paint: painting over oil paints with acrylic while the oil is still wet or combining the two will lead to a very cracked painting. Painting over dry acryllic with oil does not. If you paint on wood with oil paint without some sort of finish (varnish or gesso or whatever) the wood will eventually rot. Just thought I'd throw that out there, since Peter so lovingly mixed acrylic with linseed oil. XD

I took an oil painting class in 2005, and I forgot everything too. I tried some oil painting last year though, just to experience the hype. It's definitely the best, it's hard to go back to other types of paints. You have to try oil painting!

Man it's just wild to me because I am an oil painter but just that. People are mystified by all the oils and varnishes and whatnot, but I could sit here all day rattling off the desired effects best uses and pros and cons of any medium or technique but I couldn't tell you a single thing about working with ink. Or gouache. Or colored pencils. That's what I love about the art community; we will all always have something more to learn from one another

Oh gaaaaa! You have to use alcohol, like first aid kind with acrylic paints to get affects. It's awesome. omg you gotta try it. like put a layer wash down and even thin with water. canvas would probably do best. Then throw alcohol at it. watch it. Then let it dry and do a darker color. It's fabulous. I do yellow first, then turquoise. Then like blue. But all really watered down. It's amazing.

I used to use linseed oil on top of my colored pencil drawings because it thins it out and you can layer the colored pencils on top of each other, it's good for portraits and shading. I must say it was very satisfying watching you use a syringe to put the oil into the paint, I don't know why but it was interesting lol.

This reminds me of the spin paintings or whatever they were called at the state fair. Where they put the board on a spinner and turned it on, then you dripped different colors of paint on the board as it spun. I did a couple. One turned out looking like a bird in front of all the colors, and the other one looked like a moon crater, Very cool. Do they have these at fairs anymore? This was in the 70s when I did mine at the state fair.

You can use gamsol/mineral spirits and one of those stick things(or a q-tip) to smooth your colored pencil drawing or coloring so it doesn't look so elementary. Not the water coloring pencils but the other kind, I think they are oil/wax based and I think it eats the wax to make it smooth.
