Finnish SRA shooting has a particular division, known as TST. This is basically the military/tactical division, with certain requirements such as carrying 12kg of gear, a knife, and many other things as explained by Jari of @varusteleka
Varusteleka even have their own #särmäTST line dedicated to this / Finnish reservists: www.varustelek...

An Englishman from Swizerland activating Finland's reservists to train more. Probably not how the army expected it to happen but here we are.

A trick I learned for dealing with how a plate carrier changes your stock placement: if you have a buttstock with a relatively pointy toe, tuck the toe in between your chest and the front plate. The tension of the plate carrier against your body will hold the stock in place and it will be relatively stable and comfortable. It won't be exactly the same as your normal stock placement but I found it to be a lot better than fighting for placement with the shoulder straps.

Something about the reservist culture (if you could call it that) in Finland is intriguing to me. Recently participated in the RESUL remote march and would love to do some shooting like this. Just good clean fun.

While the US is armed to the teeth, It would appear that the Finns really have the Well Regulated Militia thing down pat. We're more of a basket of well armed rabble, at least mostly. As I read more and more into the history of early America, its really always been that way. There's just a lot more of us, and a lot more guns now.

Am a Finn and terribly sorry to soapbox off you, but here are my unpopular opinions. I believe an army of citizens is much more effective safeguard against tyranny than armed citizens. If your army as a whole is made up of citizens under arms, called to arms upon the occasion it's going to be a lot harder to use that army against your own people than a professional force that sees civilians as "other". If the army of citizens doesn't want to fight your foreign war, maybe that war isn't worth fighting?

@@AB-pp2zy Allow me to get on my own soapbox for a moment. I hear you. And in a small, homogenous place like Finland that system works very well. It actually worked quite well for the first century of the US. While there was no compulsory conscription, as you guys have, there was also no police force or standing army during peacetime, so every city and town had its own militia comprised of able bodied men of the town who drilled and trained weekly in some cases. In the event of war, these Well Regulated Militias could easily be amalgamated into an effective, defensive, regular army force. And just that situation happened for the war of 1812. By the time the civil war happened, it was recognized that the population had grown significantly and there were now a whole bunch of disparate groups with disparate values and priorities, so a permanent standing army was established and European style policing took a foothold. Fast forward to today and you get an even more fractured, diverse population. Save for a few well read Patriots such as yours truly, the popular opinion is that militias are just a bunch of extremists. We have a standing army that goes around fighting stupid petrodollar wars that nobody wants and a domestic militarized police force that enforces anarcho tyranny, with a large, well armed but disorganized population screaming from the sidelines. The US Is a bloody mess right now, and the lunatics running the show sure aren't doing anything to ease the tensions.

A lot more guns, and a lot less people who REALLY know how to use them. There's lots of plastic Rambo's out there, but very few of them could hit a torso target at 300yards or farther.

I tell you, the old finnish military tst vest (m91) was awful for shooting. There's a hook for the landmine right where you basically want to place your rifle buttstock and in general the vest kinda pushes the buttstock to the side. I bet m05 are million times better (truth be told there were huge bags in the old tst as well, you looked more like ww2 fighter compared to the sleek and light m05 vest, like a turtle with its shell).

Decent helmets are expensive and would be a bit prohibitive for the competitors. Reservists will get a helmet when called to go.
