EnCrypted Horror - narrated by Jasper L'Estrange

EnCrypted Horror - narrated by Jasper L'Estrange

Күн бұрын

A sickly boy is domineered and constricted by his puritanical aunt. His only escape is through his imagination - and the polecat-ferret he keeps hidden in the shed, around which he forms his own religion. But what prayer will he make to his ferret god Sredni Vashtar?
This audio narration of Saki's "Sredni Vashtar" includes music and sound effects. It is part of the EnCrypted: Classic Horror Podcast series.

Saki possessed a slightly sardonic imagination don't you think? This tale was deliciously nasty! A personal favorite, Tober Mory, the wonder cat who outsmarts the gullible. The music added the perfect note! Another talent of yours...invocations of Shiva...and Kali! Namaste

@@EnCryptedHorror The fact that you actually put in the hymn to Sredni Vashtar is what makes this performance not just excellent, but stellar. I hope if you wrote this song, you copyright it, so Noone else on KZfaq can use this without your permission. So many channels, I can name several, just edit off the intro and ending and upload stories on their channel, not one of which they've read.

I almost know all of Saki's tales by heart, including this one. I love his wit and my top 2 includes Tobermory. I can almost hear you now narrating that one! This tale is creepy probably because of the boy ** Spoiler Alert ** young serial killer in the making. If you are of faint heart do not listen!!

Every tales by Saki is very short ....some even less than 15 mins. Is there a reason for this?
@EnCryptedHorror
@EnCryptedHorror 3 жыл бұрын
Hi @gohboy56, a very good question to which I have only potentially unsatisfactory answers... Firstly, I believe his stories were originally written for newspapers (later collected for publication in book form) so the brevity either made them more saleable or met the specifications of editors. Secondly, Saki has a particular style of acerbic, pithy wit (he's often mentioned in the same breath as Oscar Wilde and Wodehouse) that makes economy of language very important (brevity, of course, being the soul of...). I've recorded two of his macabre tales so far, but they are meant to amuse. I think the best answer is that Saki's stories are "as long as they need to be". I'm recording an E.F. Benson story where a description of the fishing village in which it's set lasts a couple of pages. This is marvellously evocative but doesn't add much to the plot. Saki, I think, preferred quick and to the point. (Apologies for my rambling answer!)
