*English Transliteration:* Usually, Sri Hari is referred to as Lord Vishnu, but here (at Ashram), Sri means Devi, who is called Sri Mata and Hari means Lord Vishnu. Hari means the one who subsumes or takes away (the hindi equivalent of subsuming or engulfing is "har", so the name Hari). The God who takes away the brunt of adversities faced by humans is Lord Hari. Take it as a given that everybody will have pain and adversity in their lives but if we do not have reverence towards God or the mind is not surrendered towards the universe or when we start to think that things should always turn out as we want, then the same pain becomes suffering. So what is the difference between pain and suffering? In suffering, we feel that whatever is happening in our life is unjust and unfair, it shouldn't happen to me or it cannot happen to me but in pain, a person accepts that yes there is a problem, and rather than blaming life and turning the pain into suffering, he looks at finding a solution to set things right. Pain is what happens to us but suffering is what we feel as an effect of it. Lord Hari doesn't avert the pain but His devotees do not undergo suffering. He takes away the negative imapct of the situation, hence the name Hari. And Sri means the one who can give refuge and you cannot take just anybody's refuge. A person can only offer you refuge if they are capable of doing so in the first place, it can only be offered by one who is bigger and better than the one seeking refuge and God is the supreme being, who alone can offer refuge. Mothers are very tender and melt faster for their kids than the fathers. So the feminine energy of Lord Hari alone can give refuge. And Sri also means wealth, joy and splendor (so She can provide for all). There are 6 traits of God: Strength Wisdom Valor Radiance Prosperity Energy So the one that has prosperity and grandeur is Sri (Ma). There is a line in Sri Hari aarti which means glories to that God in whose chest, Mother has taken seat, the one who walks with Sri (the feminine aspect) all the time. She is not Sri just because She is with God, She is not Shakti because She is with Shiva, She is an independent entity in Her own right, that's why She is the supreme Goddess, not the supreme wife. Bhagwan (God), however is referred to as Sri's husband but Mother is not referred as just supreme being's wife. She is the supreme Goddess because She has infinite compassion and Her own independence. She is not a queen who is a queen because of a king, She is the empress and She is independently capable of sustaining the entire universe. All women deserve to be worshipped, if we look at the life of a woman, She is an epitome of sacrifice. Her entire life, She sacrifices Her own desires and expectations. It doesn't matter to Her how the husband is, She supports and walks along all Her life, the kids may get rude and answer back, still She feeds them and takes care of them. She wants to keep the family united, Her primal desire is to keep the family together and integrated. In the modern world, She studies, goes out to work but still takes care of Her family. Man forgoes his patience in a spur of a moment, that's why God gave the role of bearing a child to women, He could have given it to men too but they are not capable of it. Detachment and dispassion are the jewels of a woman's love. Only a Devi can bear and raise a child, a human being is not capable of that. No matter where the Mother is, She is always in the thought of Her children. That's why She is called the Creatrix, it is Her alone, who can give birth and sustain. Mother Divine deserves all glories. She sits on Her own independent throne from where She operates and sustains the universe. So Sri Hari means that form of God which has perfect, complete and 100% balance of the masculine and feminine aspect of God. And the vigraha (idol) at Ashram, try whenever you want to, He will smile at you as heartily as you do, the more you smile, the more you will see Him smile and if somebody is suffering, He will give a gentle smile assuring them that He knows their plight. Your own sentiment comes back manifold at you. Some of the devotees have even seen Sri Hari's tears. In the aarti also, Shiva and Shakti, Sita and Raghav, Radha and Krishna go together. So all the aspects of God are present in Sri Hari's vigraha (idol) at Ashram. This is the meaning of Sri Hari. All glories to Sri Hari Bhagwan!!!
