Thank you Manoj.. you cannot carry gas cylinder in tunnels in India. You can get the butane based stove and canisters in Leh which can help you

Sad to know about your experience, glad in the end you came back safely.. thanks for sharing this with others.. yes Sarchu is hell of a place to stay when traveling from Manali to Leh. Leh to Manali is still fine because one gets acclimatized mostly when doing Ladakh sightseeing.

Well, both are same routes only. Manali to Leh or Leh to Manali, same as Manali Leh Highway

Hello Renuka, I am happy you liked the information in my video. Leh is usually in double digits in May like 10-15 degree in day time but evenings/nights can go in single digits. Pangong Lake can be somewhere between 0-10 degree and lot colder. Sometimes difficult to spend night in cold in May, so people prefer staying at Tangtse which is about 34 km before Pangong Lake. Route wise you are OK in May, I will suggest if you can delay it by a week or two, then it will be much higher chance of roads being open and stable, expecially Manali Leh highway by the time you plan to return via it.

Watched many videos, but the way you explained cleared my doubt of why should I take Srinagar route. Sir one question, me and my friend are planning to do a bike trip single way...like from Srinagar to Leh we will use public transport. And then we will start our bike journey from Leh to Srinagar and drop the bikes there at checking point. So just wanted to know that will we get bike on rent from Leh to Srinagar?

Thank you bhai.. I am glad my videos are helpful.. You will get rental bike one way but drop only charges are very costly like Rs 10000 for pick up only. Better travel in Ladakh on rented bike and then travel on Srinagar Leh and Leh to Srinagar by public transport.

Yes aap return kar sakte ho Manali side se.. bas Leh aur Jispa k beech mein stay mat karna aap.. baaki Manali aur Mandi k beech mein traffic hai kaafi to morning mein 6 am you should leave to avoid jams

We returned from Leh to Manali on 23.05.24 . The road is open on alternate days between Sarchu and Darcha. But it’s hell driving on this road unless u have a 4X4 vehicle. The road is too bad.

Hey if I plan a trip from Chandigarh to Jammu to srinagar to leh to Manali and Kasol, including jibhi, sissu, rohtang pass and sangla valley and want to cover mostly everything on the way. How many days would you suggest I should spend?

Well, Sangla is on the other side unless you want to cover Jibhi and all and then go over Jalori Pass towards Sangla Valley and Kinnaur valley. Otherwise, you will need about 15-16 days for regular Ladakh circuit and Kasol, Jibhi, Rohtang.

Pros and cons are explained in the video for both roads. If you can do, then go from Srinagar and come back from Manali is what I most recommend

Hi Dheeraj... Thanks for the great info... I was planning my Leh trip this June and would be it good to board a flight to srinagar and then go to sonmarg directly on day 1? Then on day 2, sonmarg to leh in one stretch.... Would it be good for acclimatisation or the trip would be very tiring?

You can stay at Sonamarg on Day 1 but I will recommend you do not directly go to Leh either stay at Kargil or go over to Uley Topko or Alchi.. avoid Leh and Lamayuru on Day 2

I always prefer going from Srinagar side, especially when kids and seniors are there in the group, it makes much more sense to go from Srinagar side and come back from Manali side.

Good evening Sir. I am planning to go Ladakh with my family (by hired SUV) in this way. Srinagar-Kargil- Rangdum-Padum and reaturn back to Kargil. Then Kargil to Leh. Leh to Tso moriri and from there exit to Manali by Leh Manali highway. Your suggestions regarding where to stay? how many days are enough? Will it be good go reach leh from padum via sir sir la? which other places of worth visiting? etc. You are again requested to make a complete itinerary for me of this tour. (We have already visited Nubra valley & Pangong lake hence will not visit these 2 places in this tour) Regards.

Bhai, you can take following route: Srinagar-Kargil- Rangdum-Padum, then do not return to Kargil by same route. There is a new route from Padum to Leh via Sirsir La Singey La. You can take that route to explore new route and also save a day. If you want to do it relaxed then you can do Padum to Lamayuru via that route and next day Lamayuru to Leh. Here is the plan: Srinagar - Kargil Kargil - Rangdum Rangdum - Padum Padum Rest day, local sightseeing 2 days visit to Phuktal Monastery from Padum (optional) Padum - Lamayuru via Srisir La Lamayuru - Leh

Vipin bhai more or less it shall be OK to take the car as these days there is lot of tourists in season time and mostly they do not check too much. IF checked try to carry a NOC with you from your friend and solve the matter amicably with the folks explaining you are using a personal vehicle for personal use. Most likely you are not going to be checked but just in case be ready.

Apart from help from 1-2 army settlements there aren’t any hospitals on the way from Keylong to Leh.

It gets cold in October especially Manali Leh and you must check weather before leaving Manali or Leh on that road

October first two weeks you get apples and beautiful fall colors. You can exit via Leh Manali highway and take flight back from Chandigarh

Yes the passes will be open unless it snows on the days of your travel or if there is any snowslides up there.. bikes may not be allowed as during that time snow will be there on roads of high passes and mostly army do not allow bikes due to unsafe road conditions

No both places you will have to pass the high passes unless you want to take a very very long route via Mahe side and return the same way.. it is not recommended to follow such a long route just and then traverse it back just for the sake of bike ride.. unless you are a hardcore biker

Well, you should not worry much about it. Carry all car originals and documents that has your name with your wife like Adhar/Passport and marriage certificate. So in the likelihood of being stopped and checked for papers above documentation shall help you convince taxi union guys that it is your own personal vehicle used for personal trip.. that is all that they care and that too “if” you are stopped for checking.. mostly they don’t check but carry the documents for safer side always..

I have few questions, could you please answer it. 1) You mentioned we may not hit AMS while we travel from Srinagar to manali. But what happens if we get sick in the middle of the journey. What do we need to do. 2) This is my first time riding these many kms, How are the roads from Nubra valley to pan-gong and from LEH to manali. Can we easily manage if we go with group and experienced travel agency. 3) Do we have network issues throughout the journey ? Hello Abhiram, well, here are my replies: 1. Yes going via Srinagar Leh Highway helps in acclimatization. If you get sick in the middle of trip to Leh from Srinagar, which is very very rarely heard off, well you can decide to stay at Kargil only for another day or Alchi or Uley village. Alchi and Uley are about couple of hrs drive away from Leh and lower altitude. However, you may not need if you follow AMS tips kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br6Zna-i15yzYI0.html 2. Well, roads have improved a lot in the recent years. The road from Nubra to Pangong was bad last season as road work was going on so you will face some challenges there and it will depend on the season too. Sometimes there is water on the road as well in that section. Manali Leh is mostly tarred now with some stretches where the road is not yet built especially near passes. Rest will be manageable 3. For netwrok, please check my dedicated video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eZ2Id82St72wo40.html 4. Early season can be tough for a newbie biker because the roads are still getting stable. Manali Leh wasn't even open in a stable state last year 2023 as late as June first week. There is snow as well around passes and some slush type of stretches are there. Since you said you are a new biker, I will suggest you plan the trip either in September or July first two weeks seeing the weather.

I will recommend that you travel by Delhi to Leh by flight, acclimatize there, do local Ladakh sightseeing and then come back road on Manali Leh Highway so that you can enjoy the trip on Manali Leh road.

For hatchback/sedan taking on Manali - Leh Highway, Spiti Valley and Ladakh, I will say Possible = Yes, Difficult = Yes, at some places. You will indeed face few challenges on the route. The hatchback/sedan will increase the level of every challenge even further, sedan is the worst candidate. My suggestion will be to go via Srinagar route as it will help you feel comfortable with the driving, provide more acclimatization and then once you have done the local Leh-Ladakh, then come back via Manali side. Secondly, since you are in hatch/sedan, then you need to drive with extra care as well. There will be some sections on the Manali - Leh highway in which you might need to sacrifice some scratches on the underbelly. Just make sure you do not bump the engine sump (know it before where it is placed in your car). You need to protect it all around the trip. Thirdly, whenever in doubt do not rush into the section rather park aside and feel the section with your foot, see how other vehicles are crossing it and make a planned route in your mind to cross that section. Rahul bhai, in that case you should be OK traveling from Manali side too but like they say that you never know with AMS, who gets hit and how and when.. IF you can go, travel from Srinagar side but in case you want to completely avoid it then better stay one night at Solang, another at Jispa and then reach Leh directly. Avoid Sarchu sleep when going to Leh from Manali.

Well, Srinagar to Kargil is usually 8 hrs and then Kargil to Leh is also usually 8 hrs. Rest depends on how many breaks you take in between and what all sightseeing you do plus how long you take breaks for meals.. But above is usual measure of time for the two days you will be traveling on Srinagar Leh with decent sightseeing.
