Here in Japan these are a dime a dozen. They now make 110 cc version and would easily do 60 mph. They are extremely versatile and have a big following...

I have owned everything from the 50cc C50 Cub up to the 1000cc Fireblade and loved them all in equal.measure. Anyone who says small bikes can't be fun is not a real bike lover.

My Dad had one when I was growing up and I always thought it was so dorky. Now, I couldn't tell you what I would give to have it for myself. Such cool little moto's.

I’m 65 now, a former dealer. Still have a 73 model in my shed. I get it out every 5 years or so, get a battery, clean the carb out, ready to go again.... Your carb has a blockage, and sounds for sure you have an exhaust leak. Some work would give you 45 mph general cruising speed and a lot more wide open.... good luck with it....

My uncle had one exactly like it. That's what got me into riding bikes. Living in Nevada I went everywhere in the dirt on it. LOVED IT!!!

What matters most to me is being able to get back from the trails, when it's 117 degrees in the desert, or 17 degrees in the mountains. And having this bike as a kid, it never failed me. It truly is the greatest motorcycle OF ALL TIME, in the world!

Had one when I was 14..I’m 54 now. It had a small hole in the head, puffs of smoke would come out while riding. Still ran great, never let me down, sold it to my neighbor he had it for years. Great bike !

1966 Honda 90 step-through was my first motorcycle ever! 15 yrs old and loving life, the honda was the best motorcycle ever well at least back in 1972! Forty seven yrs later I still have motorcycles and owe it all to the incredible honda 90!

I received a used 1969 Honda 90 for a High School Graduation gift. It was GREAT. I loved cruising around on it. Yes it had the swing arm front suspension. As well as the OLD hi low gears. The extra large rear gear that you had to bolt on and the added length of chain. But the darn thing would climb a tree.

In 1986 I rode a Honda 50 from Vancouver BC to the edge of the Darien Gap in Panama sold it there and went home to UK for Christmas. In all that distance I changed oil and one spark plug and removed two links from the stretched chain. I was 22 years old. Great adventures and memories that still pop up once in a while. Today I have a Honda Shadow 750. May do it again because I don’t need to ask permission. 😀

Had one of those along with a Honda 50, Honda 185s three wheeler plus a go cart when I was younger.. How I miss those days. Sigh I'm old 😥

Bought my ct70 with my first pay check when I was 15 yrs old. Drove it year round in Nova Scotia up creeks, on snow mobile trails, through the woods...even doubled my buddies around. Loved that little bike.

My grandfather had one he let me ride whenever I wanted and I loved it. This was back in 78 when I was 10 years old. I am not sure what year it was however it had a large sprocket that bolted onto the smaller one. With the large sprocket it wouldn't go past 30 MPH but would go straight up anything. Great memories. The Honda CT90 was used heavily by Australia Post for many years...and they're considered by many a popular plus collectible classic in Australia. Pizza delivery drivers also love them...and many farmers. The model after it (the Honda CT110)...seems also to be of interest to fans of these motorcycles. Awesome! =)

The trail 70 was pretty cool as well. These were just plain fun and for some trails were great. I ultimately went with a 175 Kawasaki Enduro and it was fantastic. These were great 'Adventure' bikes for their day. A lot has changed now.

I just bought a 1973 Honda Trail 90 or CT 90. It is 48 years old and I swear it looks like it came off the showroom floor. I've never seen a motor bike this old look this good. The main reason I bought it was due to the age and condition. An older man bought it new and maintained it, then he passed away and his Grand-Daughter was given the bike. She owned it for 8 years and very seldom rode it. They took it to a local Honda Dealership and they performed a tune-up on it and now it runs just as good as a sewing machine. When I bought the bike I asked the owner's Husband if he would deliver the bike to me about 35 miles from their house for a little extra money. He agreed, so I paid $1900.00 for the bike and an extra $100.00 for delivery. I now have $2000.00 invested in the little bike. I just ordered a right-hand mirror and the Owner's manual off of ebay. Now the bike is complete. I'm going to really clean and wax on this little gem and then post a few photos on the Trail 90 Webpage. Should I want to sell this bike, I'm sure I could get $4000.00 very easy. It is almost impossible to find a bike this old in this condition. However, because it is so rare, I'm going to keep it. I just love these little Honda's. The older I get, currently 60, the more fun they are to drive.

Thanks for the review! In the mid 80's, 50cc mopeds were all we could "legally" ride at 14 or 15. Most friends had Sprees or the new Areo 50. I had an old reliable 1972 CT90. Removed the spare tank off the side & took off the "90" sticker. looked like a moped with a grocery rack. Got pulled over a few times with my friends, but it always passed for a "moped".

Rode the 110 cc for 17 years as a Postman in OZ , we hammered these bikes and couldn’t kill them , they are bulletproof . Every year there is a charity ride across the Simpson desert with everyone riding one .

I had a Honda trail 90 when I was 12yo in 1972 just like the red one in video. It had 4 lower gears & 4 higher gears & there is a switch on left side of motor to switch from higher to lower gears. I never used lower gears & the higher gears were just right for all my trail needs in Globe Arizona & Port Orchard WA. I even used this trail 90 on roads at 45 mph & I never had a license. When I was 16yo I graduated to a yamaha 125 MX in 1976 & was happy to have a 2 stroke. The Honda Trail 90, was a good beginners bike for a 12yo even though it was a 4 stroke it took a lot of punishment & was a good friend & it ran much better than the 3 wheelers that came out in 1970s. In 1970 most teenagers had the Honda trail 70 & more teenagers had dirt bikes than cars in Arizona. The Honda trail 90 is a nice commuter in nice weather if you don't need to travel on major highway & a good investment. Thank you for sharing the trail 90 history. I did not like sitting on the gas tank, but I liked riding on the roads adults used & to go to friends homes then we would go trail riding in the desert, on dirt roads & narrow trails as dirt bikes were our main source of entertainment not tv, cell phones or computers or even drugs.

I rode a 1968 Honda trail 90 all over, I weighed 225 lbs, stood 6'6" tall, could go 45 mph, sitting on the rack.

I had a 70cc honda mini trail and a 55cc honda trail. My dad had a 50cc step thru that I learned to ride at 4 yrs old. The 50cc was a street version with the exhaust down low so I was able to straddle it in the low section.reach up to the handle bars, put it in first gear turn the throttle feet on the pegs and jump up on the seat! Dad had to start it for me until I got a little older and I didn't get out of first gear until I got older. LOL! then he bought me a 55 trail version when I was 7. I love those old hondas! My 70cc I bought in my 20's, it was street legal and I took it everywhere with me in my motorhome. Great bikes that never stop running! They were all the semi automatics! Great bikes!

As a kid, in about 1966,67 or so, I had one of these. I learned to ride a bike on it. I went everywhere way back in the hills of Southern California on it. I love them and would like to have another.

so with the intake under the seat all you have to do is fart to get a boost like NOS . Right! Ha!

In 1966 I had a '66 Honda Super 90 (or S 90 as they were called) It had a 4 peed and a clutch. I often went on the freeway with it in SoCal because it could cruise at about 67 mph.

I bought a non-runner for $10 in the ‘80s. Cleaned the carb and replaced the spark plug and rode it until I left for college. I ended up giving it back to the guy who originally sold it to me as a way of saying “thanks for the memories.”

I had a 1975 Honda Trail 90. Back in 1978 I was driving on Minnesota State Highway 68 between Mankato and New Ulm I had my Trail 90 up to 60 mph. I was drafting behind a semi. Rode that speed for over ten miles.

I had a 1969 trail 90 for years. Sold it about 10 years ago. The only long term problem I had with it was the battery constantly need to be replaced. The engine did cease up at about 2 years and Honda replaced it for free. There was some maufactoring defect. Mine did go 55 mph, but I only weighed about 120 lbs back then.

My son and I went trail riding in the mountains of Idaho on two Trail 90s. While trying to get back to the main dirt road before sunset we were blocked by a fence and a locked gate. So my son lifted both CT 90s over the fence! He's a stud.

My older brother had a Bridgestone 90 for his first motorcycle years ago. Got my first motorcycle ride on it.

With the recent re release of the super cub it would be awesome if honda gave us this again. especially with a 2 gear range transmission

My first bike was a 1976 Trail 90, I got it when I was 13 in 1998-9. We got it for maybe 4-500 bucks, needing nothing more than just cleaning up and lubing and making all the parts move smoothly again, the bike was all there, just hadn’t run in like 10 years. I learned how to work on stuff with it, with the help of my older cousins and dad, and once it was tip-top I proceeded to ride the absolute nuts off of it, with ZERO maintenance aside from a yearly oil and spark plug change and carb cleaning and a tire every now and again, for 9 years. It was a Trail 90, so naturally I was full-throttle for the majority of that time. I gave it to a young cousin, who continued to beat it mercilessly for years, who then gave it to a younger-still cousin, who rides it to this day. It needs a rebuild, but it still runs and gets the job done. I’m DEFINITELY buying one of the new Trail 125s as a second/loaner/girlfriend bike (I have a heavily modified TW200 and a stock-ish DR-Z400 SM for me) in a couple years when they’ve worked any bugs out (and hopefully I can get it in that sweet tan color they get overseas by then). I don’t expect it to be as indestructible as the legendary CT, but Honda knows what it has to live up to, so I can assume they’ll do their best. Amazing motorcycles. You don’t have to be fast to be fun, and these things are in a league of their own in terms of dependability and are pretty shockingly capable in the dirt to boot. Also, you’re absolutely out of your mind for taking that thing on the highway, haha!

That sound reminds me of my youth. I never owned a trail 90 but my buddy did. We mostly had SL 100's. But he would keep right up with us trail riding. Thanks for the memories.

I bought one of these during the fuel shortage in the early 70's. I could get to near 60 if on a busy road.Very versatile little machine off road,averaged 60 plus mph on the the faster roads,that was really pushing it,cruised very nicely between 40 to 50 usually averaged 55 to 60mpg at these speeds,better on city streets.

This is the bike that was on the bumper rack on all the RVs, now it's the Yamaha TW200.

I grew up in the woods on 90s and they are the greatest bikes ever built. I've had the 70 and 50 too which were also great But the 90 deserves a medal 🏅

I had a trail 90 in High school. Worked part time at the A&P to save up for one. Went to a Honda Dealer in PA. with my mom's chevy 2 Nova. Took out the back seat, put the Honda in. The seat fit in the trunk. Drove home and hid it under a sheet in our downstairs TV room. Dad came home and found it. He said, "take it back". I was pissed off. I said NO I paid Cash and there is no returns. He said "If you get "A' s in school you can keep it. I got Cs and kept it ! Loved that little first bike. It did not have the folding bars or the extra gas tank. But I could climb the local ski lift trail with it. I Loved that little red Honda ! Now have four in the garage. 2 Classic Brits, 1 Big Honda Gold Wing, and a Rickman street/Dirt Bike. I just quit riding though. Too many near death experiences with A-holes on cell phones! I love to ride but I want to collect a few more SS checks and live to tell about my bikes to the Grandchildren !

My family had one when I was growing up. Used it to deliver news papers for our route. Great for what it was made to be. The handle bars were made to rotate for storage on Motorhomes and trailers with a bumper carrier that you could buy. I and my friends would go camping on the river that had a lot of sand along the river. It was a pack mule and had many great times with it. Sadly we sold it for something faster.

My grandfather had one in immaculate condition when i was younger. It barely had any mileage, he bought it new in the 70's and barely rode it, when i would visit in the summertime i would ride it all over, up mountains in the the kooteneys on public roads, just everywhere. I think about this bike and wish it was still around, first true freedom I experienced as a kid, it never had even the slightest problem, despite me riding it nearly everyday, all day in extreme heat all over those remote mountains. Its to bad i cant have the original one i knew but i hope to get another one eventually just because it was so simple and reliable.

I modified and rebuilt 1971 Trail 70 by uping the jug and piston to a 90CC regeared for higher top end speed and street tires. Got it tagged and all legal so I can cruise around town all summer long. Get pulled over a lot as the cops just see a mini bike on the road. But its all good we get a laugh out of it as they usually see me go by and hit their lights before they see the legal tags. It sweet spot is cruising at 35-37mph which was my target upgrade speed I was shooting for and being able to ride comfortably around on 35mph city roads and not maxing the engine the entire time. 45mph is about the max... though I have had it up to 51mph with a good tail wind. Which is crazy fast for such a little bike. Love these old Honda's. Takes a hour to regear for the torque of slower trail riding and putting the Knobby tires back on for going up north in Michigan trail riding. If I were to do it all over again Id put in like a 110cc 4 speed manual and get rid of the original 3 speed semi-auto. 45mph is about all that 3 speed can handle and is just screaming. I grew up riding a Honda 90 - even had the extra gas can - even ran it in water above 1 1/2 feet. From cow ramming it, trees, ponds, rivers, and random gunfire, these bikes are super tough. I even pulled cars with it in low. Girlfriends riding on the back rack (with cushion). What a great trip down memory lane! Thanks!

I had one of those back when I was a teenager in the early 80s. In the winter I would put it in low range and tow people around in the snow on a disc sled tied to the back. It was great fun!

I owned a ‘69 CT-90 and it was the same as the ‘70. It had telescopic front suspension but lacked the air cleaner snorkel, extra fuel can, and swivel handlebars. It was my first bike and I loved it. I remember reading in a cycle mag about a guy who rode from Florida to California on a Trail 90 because he didn’t have a car.

I had a 90 Sport in 1971 I could pop a wheelie and ride it high about 60 degrees on one wheel for miles and miles all around my leave it to beaver neighborhood till my dad caught me Your narration unlike most KZfaq narration is funny

We had one of these when I was growing up. Used it primarily as a yard bike. Didn’t appreciate how cool it was until you get older. Dad sold it when the kids finally moved out.

I drove one all through college in New Orleans and I drove it everywhere, off road and on the highway sometimes. People in cars could look at me like.....how is that machine keeping up with traffic here on the highway. There were days I would load a full set of golf clubs on the rack in the back laying sideways with my cocker spaniel dog perched on top of the golf clubs. Truly one of the all time best pieces of equipment I ever owned. I am retired now and wouldn't mind having another one.

Started w/ a split sprocket 90, moved up to Hi-Lo cases, and had a CT-110. Amazing machines - wish they'd come back!

You could have easily talked about this motorcycle for about 45 minutes. my son jest loves his, a 125 cc fits perfect in them too.

This not the bike I learned on but close. I learned on a S100 Sport. It was beautifully styled bike. I rode the piss out that bike as a 14 yo. Other notable bikes I rode back in the day was a 305 Superhawk (first 100 mph bike) a CB175 and a SL350. The moved into the venerable CR250M Elsinore. I tell you what my Honda’s never ever let down. Always started on the first or second try. Never had a single part fail other than the usual expendable parts like chains, sprockets and brake pads. Thank you Soichiro Honda you made me a lifetime rider of motorcycle.

My first cycle was a 68 or 69 CT90. I wish I still had it. My Dad and I would take our motorcycle into the mountains for weekend campout and ride trails everywhere. Great low end torque and it would take me anywhere. Not so good on hill climbing, but it was fun.

Gday mate, I learnt to ride dad's Honda CT90, with the front little swing arms as you said, late 1960s model.. We lived in New Guinea (dadwasaChristianmissionary) so this bike was amazingly helpful, even had a low range gear lever under the engine which cut top speed in half. I loved it, knobby tyres, tough, unstoppable even with dad and myself (16-18yr old) and wet grassy hill roads! Slow but fun & easy to ride! I gotmylicenceon it.. wish I still had it also. Now I'm in Australia, ride a 2008 Suzuki Dr650se which is also basic but great all round.. God bless you man, hope to meet you in the next world of Heaven, if not before!!! Take care 🙏

That is probably 239,000 miles, built to last! A Mate of mine has one that was used by the Australian Postal Service, for deliveries in the out, out Out Back and he rides it every day. The engine will run on any type of oil, including vegetable oil and the lowest grade gasoline available. This line of vehicles was designed for the worst the third world has to offer and keep on running. Instead of a moped, I would use one of these as a Prep-er bug out bike! Add two more shocks to the rear, extremely tough off road tires, two two gallon gas cans, your gear and you should be able to get way back in them thar piney woods or hills. It will also make a great fishing and hunting vehicle!

In the summer of 1969 when I was 15 I won a bright yellow Honda Trail 90 from a Pennzoil gas station drawing in Oil City, Pa. No extra gas tank though plus the forks were yellow. It had the chrome back rack like yours does but I don’t remember that clip that loosens to move the handle bars to the side. Had high exhaust but I think the center thing was yellow instead of the flat black plastic. Rode this bike for one season on some land that had hills and places to do jumps till I wrecked it. Got other forks fixed and sold it. Incredible amount of fun! Rom8:28 Eph 2:8,9

I loved the trail 90, my first bike at 15 years old. I'm quite sure it was first made in 1964. Bought mine beginning of summer in 1966, but it was used, so definitely made before 1966. Mine didn't have high/low transmission. It had a bigger sprocket mounted behind the normal one. It took 4 bolts, washers, nuts and an extra length of chain to mount it on the smaller sprocket for low speed/power (what a pain that was, only did it once).

Definitely, a cool bike but the CB, CL.and SL 350s were my favorites back then.

That was my last bike, sold it in '77. Now looking at the Honda CRF 250 Rally and I understand why even it looks like a monster to me. Retired and ready for adventure.

The best version was the 1986 CT110. It had electronic ignition and a 12v charging system.

The Honda Trail 125 is coming to the USA in November 2020; when I was younger, I had a Honda Chappy, which we took with us on vacation, when camping. So we would not need to hop in the car each time we needed to get something at the grocery store. As with all the Honda, including this one, you could use and abuse them, they would never fail you. The Chappy was equipped with a two stroke engine, but in Europe, you had special "mixture" gas pumps everywhere. You did not need to add oil and shake as he showed in the video. The concept of the Chappy, however you want to call it today, has never gotten old. Everyone should have one in their garage.

The first motorcycle I ever took a ride on and the first I ever rode. My uncle had one back about 1971. I couldn't even begin to imagine how many trial and fire roads in western Pennsylvania I have run up and down with that bike. Wish Honda would go retro and re-introduce these, I'd buy one in a minute.

in Europe the gas stations sell pre-mix 2-stroke fuel, so we don't have to have this extra oil tank for our 2 stroke bikes
