Now I'm imagining the amount of heat you pump out in Frontier. "Oh, I want an upgrade of 12 thrusters, that is 48 capacitors right there. And I also want the gyro upgraded, two generators, the ore processor, and a few toys like advanced magboots." A casual 75 parts later and the walls are melting, and not from the space drugs

Frontier merchant here, I build my hyper-convection lathes on an extension built onto my ship. Can’t cook in a vacuum! Though they print WAYYYY slower so sometimes it’s better to use a time efficient standard lathe with t3 parts.

My thought from my limited atmos knowledge, if you're working in a room near the edge of the station: - Create a circular pipe loop between the lathe room and space. - Include a connector port and a pump to be able to dump the contents of a can into the loop. (This does not need to be in the lathe room. Put it wherever along the loop.) - Add a pump to move contents of the pipe in a circle. - Add a couple radiators to the pipe both in the lathe room and out in space. The more the better, especially out in space. - Get a can of CO2 (or whatever, but CO2 seems best offhand) from Atmos or wherever and dump it into the loop. (Set the insertion pump to max to drain the can into the loop.) If needed add a second can, but one should be plenty. - Make sure the pump is running to circulate the CO2 through the loop. Not sure what power setting is best. If my understanding is right, the CO2 in the loop should be forced out into space, where the radiators will chill the fuck out of the CO2. The chilled stuff comes back inside, where the radiators from the warm room should absorb the heat into the cold gas, which is then sent back out to be chilled. I'm completely theory-crafting here, but the thought is to use the same process as to cool a nuclear reactor, cycling stuff through to absorb the heat and then venting that heat off to something else (in this case, outer space). Whether this will work at all with SS14 physics or whether it will provide enough cooling if it does work, I don't know. If your shift's Atmos is bored (which they probably are), try recruiting them to help you build and test this concept! Have the RD ask the CE for help; we're usually looking for things for our people to do if there aren't bombs going off or whatever.

Generally what I do is place two space heaters near my hyper convection machines. You can usually do some light re-arranging to comfortably work around them. Set the space heaters to high power and lower the target temp to have a buffer to work with. Combine this with some fancy NT insulated clothing and you're pretty much fine in terms of temperature. If you're not running the clothing, you may be toasted a bit in small rooms but you can just leave the room for a few seconds, and chat at the front desk or whatever. I've seen paranoid RD's spend a quarter of a shift stuffing the hyper convection protolathe into a 2 by 3 box in maints and attempt to setup a hellfire cooling loop. While it is satisfying when it works and cranks out a lot of parts, it's much simpler to spend less than a crate of steel and a little bit of plastic on flatpacking two bluespace heaters. All in the pursuit of science!

If you get your hands on a holofan you can put it right ontop of the machine with the same setup you use here in the arti room and the vent will only suck out the tile in the holofan and the hot air cant get out.
@user-uj8kf8ty5x

You can close them with a holographic atmosphere projector, you can put a hyperconvection autolat on a tile with a small fan, you can build a sealed plastic curtain on the tile. All these options will not allow air to escape from the tile and the room will not heat up.

I just checked and it seems you can build radiators that supposedly equalize heat between the environment and gas in a pipe! This might be the source of a more practical custom cooling system for such machines. Sad there doesn't seem to be a heat pump, though. At any rate, with some cleverness, I'd assume pumping heat into the station's waste gas (which is likely to be merely dumped overboard like open-cycle coolant) would be more power efficient than magicking it away with freezers.

Yeah Salv not being focused on mining can be a pain. What I really don’t like though is when Salvage takes the ore processor from Cargo. I just don’t understand the salvs that do that. Gives them even less reason to come back to station and basically forces Cargo to have faith Salv will deliver mats or Fulton them back. Which given the state of Salv you can’t always believe.

If you take it with you, it’s easier to dump all the ore into the processor and either Fulton crates of supplies back or drag the ore processor back home. Bit faster than lugging 4 or more ore bags. I encourage as many salvers as I can to mine, or take care of it myself on shift. Unfortunately, I’ve seen both cargos that never touch the crates I’ve sent back, and supplied science departments that never make anything

Or you could go big brain and put all your lathes outside on a catwalk. Space is a pretty good insulator. Then again you could always just spaced the room they're in. Then you'd have to fiddle with all those pesky firelocks, and accidentally spacing other rooms, but that might not be too bad.
