I use a Samsung 850 EVO 250gb as a boot drive, and 2 WD Black Hard Drives (1 TB, 1 500gb) for data and some games. Works perfect! I can see in the future having all SSD's tho. My Ryzen motherboard has 2 M.2 slots, and prices on SSD's are suppose to drop a lot next year. Perhaps they will make them to last longer than 5 years at some point.

On my 6 foot table are 2 hefty desktops. Desktop #1 - Primary 480 gig SSD - C drive for boot & download speed. Second drive (main work disk) 1TB HDD for data & picture storage PLUS 3 TB HDD backup & archive. Includes OS formatted & all info from secondary backed up. Desktop #2 - 500 gig SSD primary for Fast Boot & downloads. Secondary drives ( plural ! ) - USB external 4TB HDD and 8 TB HDDs. - OS and all data , like 250K photos taken over the last 50 years, are on the "little 4" and the "big 8". Some years back, I was quoted $900 to repair / recover a crashed disk with lots of history on it. For that kind of $$$ I could have bought the entire 2 setups I have now with change left over. If you think a crash won't happen to you : IT WILL !

What are the sources on the ssd lifespan? They can usually support so much data written that it will take many years before that becomes an issue for most people. Even the most budget ssds have a 3 year warranty, many have 5 years. Many hdds make it to 10 years if you take care of them but I would imagine that unless you are just hammering an ssd with writes it could probably be expected to last easily 10 ears without issue.
@FocusReborn44

Performance is much more important than capacity. It isn't difficult to find other ways of storing data, but performance is something that literally affects everything you do on a laptop. SSD seems to be the best overall. My next laptop will defo be SSD... HDD feels like the laptop is just one spin away from f****** up.
@reftu7856

Finally a voice of the reason. Yes ssd is faster period. But will it even matter if you're not a gamer? Because I honestly don't think so. Let's be honest if you're not a type of person who needs constant fast reads or writes, i.e, gamer or video editor etc, you won't notice significant difference once the application goes to RAM. For me, the only time ssd shows any boost in speed is cold bootup and opening apps after a startup as I work with 3d apps and browsing. Ssd is a good option to have if you're looking for a new drive, that's for sure. Just don't get swayed by those overhyped ssd lovers on internet claiming 'everything is better with ssd', because that HEAVILY depends on what you do with your computer.
@jacenthegreat9536
@jacenthegreat9536 2 жыл бұрын
I have a new ssd and it was actually pretty good until my laptop's battery got too old and stopped working and it cut the performance in half. now from stable 30 fps to a Rollercoaster 30 20 10fps so startups is slower opening apps is normal but with the games I used to play with it is not playable now. it's just laggy but its good for some of the casual games.
@brownjonny2230
@brownjonny2230 2 жыл бұрын
@@jacenthegreat9536 I don't know about that. Cheaper SSDs, especially DRAM-less ones, do get slower as the capacity fills up but it doesn't impact read speed. Boot up may take longer as OS actually writes some data into the drive which would be somewhat affected by SSDs writing speed. But opening up files and apps should be fast. Maybe you're running out of RAM or something?

HDD is always your storage and archive drive. The SSD is simply for spiting out data as fast as possible. Anything you want to keep forever better be on the HDD. Anything you can replace or just copy to for use is what you use the SSD for. Example: I play my game on my SSD drive but my game is fully backed up on my HDD drive.

@angrysocialjusticewarrior
@angrysocialjusticewarrior 5 жыл бұрын
@@maxx1o1 You are wrong. Software is not in the ram, it is in the hard drive. Software only goes into ram when it is launched and copies it's data from the hard drive to the ram. Therefore an SSD will make a dramatic improvement when it comes to launching programs and loading data into ram. SSD also has a dramatic improvement when copying files from one location to another in the SSD. And in terms of the claimed "longer lifespan" of HHD. I can assure you that your HDD will most likely fail way before you get anywhere near 10 years of usage. And even if by some miracle that a diety grants your HDD the durability to go a full 10 years, you will still throw it away long before that time because the performance will have degraded severely. SSD's will work the same for the 5 year periord, and will still work fine after 5 years. The reason they give it a lifespan of 5 years is because after 5 years they also begin to degrade in performance. But a degraded SSD will still be faster than a brand new HHD that you bought 12 minutes ago.

2-3x faster is not worth the hype heh? for me it is, once I used SSD i couldn't go back to HDD, not only boot time and load time reasons, but also SSD I noticed has less errors, specially on the hardware drivers and program freezes is not existent on SSd.

Create a windows 10 installer on a thumb drive, turn off the pc, remove the hard drive, plug in the thumb drive and turn on the computer. Now go to boot options and choose to boot from the usb flash drive. The installer should do all the work from here, just go through the normal steps of a fresh windows install. After that, reconnect you HDD and make sure you choose to boot from ssd. Now delete the windows files on the hard drive and boom, OS transfered and you didn’t lose your files. You’ll need the windows media creation tool from Microsoft, thankfully they make it easy to create a windows 10 image. www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
