This character is so hard to understand but the same time easy to do so. First, as a fan of yoon shi yoon I started watching this drama. I hate yi hyun so much for the cause of thousands of innocent people to die. But, I also understand how he became the devil he is. He was a sweet person that all he wanted was marrying someone he loves which she also loves him back. But social status was the problem. He saw that Korea has slavery and nobles which Japan didn't have much of it or lets say not very obvious and under the law. So he wanted to liberate Korea and change the rules so people like him can live and live However they want. Yet he was a tool in the hands of Japan they played with his mind tricked him to make him a traitor which he thought he wasn't. He was used. And what made it worse is he was a product of war. He was forcefully taken in to fight in war kill other humans to survive. How would come out sane after a war? No one. Thats why I hate people who think war is a solution its never is and never will be. We will always just lose our fellow humans to devil and sanity. We also lose human lives and generations of messed up minds just cause of resources and money. What about earth, people, future generations? How will war ever fix that? Yi Hyun is a product of selfish greedy people Mostly men who use war to get more and more money and status. And after? We will all go back to earth after we die. We are the same after death. You think you won't pay back all the karma of these people like yihyun? We will keep living and see what happens to these people in power time will only tell.
