By viewer request...an updated tour (not a deep dive) into the basics and some details of a general contractor's small 6x10 v-nose tool trailer. 5000lb, single axle. Current gross weight is 4500lb. Full tool trailer playlist of all my videos can be found here and linked on a card at the end of the video.
• my Paulk-SMART tool tr...
Built out using Ron Paulk's SMART tool trailer plans I purchased in 2019. Left side of trailer is a modified match to his plans. Right side is Ron Paulk inspired but Spencer designed to fit my needs and the small size of the trailer.
He calls his tool trailer SMART (small mobile awesome rolling toolbox)
I call mine sSMART since my trailer is smaller.
Go to Ron Paulk's store to purchase his plans and check out his YT channel for his build out (there is a great playlist to walk you through the plans).

Thanks for the comments and compliment Robert! It certainly is integral to having tools on a jobsite and being able to find them quickly!

Thanks for the video brother! Watched your older videos of the trailers definitely helpful, I own a handyman business and got a 5x8 trailer I’m going to be building to a similar setup it’s nice seeing the different ideas people come up with!

Howdy DarkDeg. Thanks for commenting! Much appreciated for checking out the older videos. You have probably already seen it but Handyman Journey, Allen Lee, out of CA has a real successful handyman business and he started out a bunch of years ago with a 5x8 and he has a couple videos showing his buildout in a small trailer for handyman. It might give you some ideas and what or what not to do! Best of luck with your build and like Daryl aka The Finisher always says, "if the trades don't work, nothing else does." Great luck and success with your business. Like the Bulletproof Handyman always says, "I hope you are out there killin' it!" If you haven't seen either one of them, you should check them both out. They are really great resources and inspiration for Handyman businesses.

Hey Steve . It’s great to see you are still making videos. My favorite thing in your trailer is your hardware store. Love the videos thanks for sharing

Hey there RWCR!! Always great to hear from you and thanks for sticking with me after all this time! As it may be apparent, I too am very pleased with such an extensive hardware store. It keeps me on the jobsite and that is worth a lot! Thanks for commenting.

Hey Steve, great video, thanks for sharing. I've had several tool trailers over the years, and most of them were disasters because I also used them for doing deliveries (cabinets, cars, materials, etc.). I always wanted to do something like this setup because I couldn't stand the mess. But, everything had to be modular, and able to load and unload relatively quickly. I outgrew my small trailers quickly, and ended up with an 8.5' x 24' enclosed car trailer. A world of difference, but the downside, of course, was maneuvering in tight neighborhoods and small driveways. There's no perfect scenario, I guess 😂. Anyway, I had one of my tool trailers stolen from the jobsite once. I highly recommend the DeWalt Mobilelock if you don't have one already. I have an overview video of it on my channel if you're not familiar with it. I can not stress enough what the value of the Mobilelock is. Thanks for sharing your trailer build! One final question: Have you ever weighed it empty? That was another issue that I had with my small ones. They just couldn't hold up to the daily wear and tear running around loaded. Thanks -Dusty

Howdy DB! Thanks for the comments! I very much appreciate it. I can only imagine what you can do with a 24' trailer with the 8.5' width!!! I will grant you that hauling it in narrow road neighborhoods and parking it in client driveways would be (at least for me) incredibly problematic. I do have a trailer security system!! I will check your video out though. I am always looking to learn. Thanks again!! spence

Thanks fort the comment and the compliment! I am lucky enough to have found that Paulk guy back when I had a new empty trailer and was in need of an idea on how to build out some shelves for tools. I stumbled on one of his YT videos and from there, I was hooked! $25 set of PDF plans later and I was picking up plywood at the local lumber yard and deep diving into Ron's build series of videos looking for tricks, tips, and shortcuts for my build. This trailer has worked out very well for me in the past 4 years.

Always nice to see you do a tour of your trailer! Looking forward to what projects and videos you will be making this summer. We are on a weeks break this week. I am assuming you guys are too?

Howdy Russ! We only had Friday and tomorrow. PA doesn't take breaks. No idea why. Beyond my paygrade. Not sure what projects are coming up this summer but I have a porch rebuild and possibly a bathroom reno. I will keep you posted! Thanks for the comments (as always!)

Hi Steve. I'm looking forward to your deep dive video. I have to say im not a fan of your Ron Paulk Bromance obsession. Yes you bought his awesome plans (Like me) but you have adapted them and made them your own. you have build something that is different from Rons and you have made it your own. Please own that and take credit for the awsome job you have done.

Howdy Nathan! Thanks for your comments! I will say that I am a fan of the guy, no doubt about it and respect his skills with developing ideas for the trailers and the benches. As an educator, I am on automatic with crediting my sources and this is most likely why Ron's name gets mentioned in any trailer or bench video I make. I always make sure to over mention rather than under mention. You are correct in that I put the time and money into the builds and modified them to fit my needs and did it well. Glad to have had the chance to flex my skill set in different directions like those builds. I just try and make sure that I am giving proper credit to the bunch of years that it took to figure out the trailer set up and the benches that I am taking full advantage of by getting plans of the end result and making them my own. I appreciate that I did not have to dream this all up and then figure out how it worked. Thanks for the words about owing it....I do own it as anyone should who can bring some skills and time to the game and make something cool and functional. I had a great time building them and look forward to the next trailer and the next set of benches (with the carts.....I love the carts!!) Talk about function and convenience! Have a great one Nathan! Like I try to say in my most recent videos, you deserve it. And I mean that.

Excellent video! I've been watching lots of you and Ron and Richard as I am looking to build something out myself. I want to have a 8 x 16-22 one day but I am doing a lot of work in the city where even a small trailer maybe too tight. I'm working out of a small pickup at the moment and need to decide if I'm going with a 6x10 or a van. Some places I could take a small trailer but not much more. What kind of places do you work? And have you ever considered a van over a trailer? I'm a huge fan of a pickup but vans have a lot going for them.

Howdy Shawn! Thanks for the comments. I work in a relatively small town (15,000) and surrounding areas. I could get away with a 14, 16, 18, and maybe even a 20ft trailer but, given that, I couldn't park anything bigger than a 12ft on my pad just off our alley. (too tight to back it in and swing it around). If I worked in a larger city, I would strongly consider one of those tall Sprinter type vans and build it out. I know the Handyman had a 10 or 12ft trailer and he seemed to do well in his city of over 1 million when not traveling in the mid-town. There, he only seemed to have his truck or his wife's van. If I could have two vehicles in a city setting, I would have a truck for most things and a Van built out for work. Good luck with your build out however it takes shape.
