I’m not a Catholic but been growing in my faith closer with Jesus than I’ve ever been. I’ve been researching and praying more. St Benedict kept popping up on my KZfaq recommended so here I am and feel like my faith is leading me to something so great. I am a Roman Catholic Monk. I wear a gold Crucifix every day, and have a red one for certain tasks. I have a Benedictine Shield, that I wear daily. I have one on my keyring, and I have a Benedictine Order ring. I also have a larger Benedictine medal that I keep in my bedroom. I keep a Rosary pouch, with an extra Rosary in my shirt or pant pocket. I have a full Holy Family, Benedictine cross at my front door. i have severe mental illness and was raised as an athiest and remained an athiest until approximately 2 years ago. i have been disturbed during psychosis and outside psychosis by the belief that i could feel evil. I believed i could see demons, that they were ever present at times in my life. I have seen a distorted face of a passerby who lunged at me that others could not see (they said he coughed while calming me), heard angry, rasping whispers saying my name and more. i had always attributed all these things to the nature of my mental illness. i have always felt drawn to Christianity but saddened because i was unable to allow myself to believe in the existence of God due to my belief it was not logical and the arrogance that often accompanies extreme athiest views. over time i became more and more unwell. Growing up id had a friend who wore the medal of St Christpher. I was not aware of what exactly this was for except for protection and was not aware there were many types of these medals for different saints. when i was unable to sleep and paranoid with delusions and fear i bought the pendant of what i know now is st benedict off amazon as it was the first Catholic medal on the list. it was shipped to my home and upon putting it on i have never experienced the same type of "satanic" images/delusional beliefs again. i did continue to suffer other delusions for nearly a decade but the demonic ones were gone. the delusions shifted to be based on things possible in the real world or things that were not real but not overly disturbing. today as of 2 years ago i no longer experience delusions at all. i changed my diet and lifestyle due to illness and saw much relief. while i was making these changes i also asked God to reveal himself to me if he was really there and said I would believe. The room i was in lit up with sunlight and while it was possible for me to rationalize it away I kept my word. I begun to attend mass at the Catholic church a few months later. My first attendance was the first day the of the church calendar year which was also by complete coincidence and something i did not realize until later on when i more properly understood how mass worked. the first mass was so powerful i could not stop crying and it felt as if a powerful force was pressing down on my head and shoulders, i also saw a yellow glow around the priest which i thought may have been a trick of the light though this only happened the first several visits and again recently. I have realized many of my experiences with God have put me on this path and I have only become more and more settled and at peace as time goes on. I have taken the medal off 2 times in over a decade and both for only a few minutes as i truly believe it has aided in my wellbeing even before i allowed myself to believe in God. I will be baptized this Easter. God Bless.
